Mines all finished now, took about 2 hours.
One hour to download the maps onto the PC, and then another hour to transfer from PC to the GO1000.

Just need mapshare to work now.

Mine downloaded and installed within 10 minutes. UK and IRL map that is.

Mind you, I've got uber reliable 20MB cable broadband Smile

I'm sure that helps.

Despite it's short comings (not many though,) I LOVE this device. Vastly improved GUI and voice too. Not so TTS robotic anymore. I think the new female voice is very acceptable and makes the wait for more personalized ones not so bad.

Also, love these POI's too! Wink

I love the TT 1000 too, especially as it turned out to be free due to a cock up on the tills at the retailer... I did tell them but they insisted on carrying on so ended up getting it free!

I agree and nice to see some more positive remarks about the TT 1000, whilst it's still not perfect the HD traffic works well and has saved me hours of "wasted" travelling time since I bought the unit in November to replace an ageing TT One.

Once we get map share and backup then I'm happy and it then has pretty much all the functionality I would want and expect from a sat nav (I appreciate my requirements may be different to others).

Mind you I can't complain as I've had 2 free map updates as I got the one back end of last year too before it got quickly pulled.

One would hope that TT has learnt from this experience but we'll wait and see with future device releases.

Well I remain mapless.
It took the old map off yesterday, but then wouldn't update, I always get a fault with process somewhere near the end, and then it all starts again, and downloads again. I am chewing through my monthly download limit, and am wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
The map does seem to download (and you can see an item in the cache (product 1 or 2 or 3 or several? of the right sort of size), but then it starts again (whether I clear the cache or not).
I've tried resetting both pc and tt1000 thus far to no avail. HAving started the process again this morning it's saying it'll take 2 hours (30 mins to go), but the laptop will be off and on it's way to work by then, so another download wasted.
I have raised this with tt support, but any thoughts welcome. I know it could be me creating the issues, but I can't currently see how!

Do you know if your unit had updated its software to 10.111?

If not, will it let you install that first?

Or can you try the upgrade on another computer?

Is it your laptop or employers? What version Tomtom Home 3 are you using?

If it's a corporate laptop it could be restricting what data leaves your laptop?

Thanks both (technik and hummer).

yes all software (unit and mytomtom is the latest), and it is my laptop.

I had to stop this morning with 20 mins to go, and having plugged it back in 5 mins ago it's now downloading yet again!, 14% done and 1hr 55mins to go.

In the cache I have content1, 2, 3, and 4 all of different sizes from 293,145 kb to 328, 886kb.
I've asked TT support aswell, but am waiting.

I too am having problems downloading the latest Europe maps to my 1000.

It eventually downloaded all the maps and then my device reported "No maps found!" but what then? The MyTomtom applet just says "Busy" and "keep device connected" but there's no indication on the device or the applet whether it's transferring data over USB or of progress.

When TomTom Home says keep device connected, it should start transferring the new map to your GO 1000, and on your GO 1000 you should see the progress indicator showing how long in time to go until completion.

Did you try a direct USB connection or another computer if possible?

There's no progress indicator on the device - it's still on the screen saying "No maps found!". Also I'm using a main USB port now (rather than a hub).

I would start again.

Disconnect the GO 1000

Empty the cache in TomTom Home settings and reset the GO 1000

Reconnect to the computer

One definite issue (even after a reset) is that after the download has completed, the TT is powering down during the installation - it flashes up the burglar icon and then powers off! The MyTomtom applet says "Installation Interrupted - please reconnect your TT device".
After I press the power button, it goes back to "There is one new item available" and you have to start the download all over again. Mad

Any ideas how to to prevent this?

The maps finally transferred!

Here's what worked (no idea if any of these made any difference though):

plug TT into PC rear USB port (not hub or front port )
configure PC power-saving to be on permanently (never sleeps)
configure advanced power settings - USB ports to be Selective Suspend Disabled
disable on-access virus scanner
download new maps and turn off TT device
after an hour (or when maps are nearly downloaded) turn on TT device
TT device should say Connected and downloading with a spinning progress indicator
If you see any error messages in MyTomTom or the TT just says "no maps" then unplug the TT device cable, wait a few seconds and replug it. Keep repeating this until the download-to-device process starts (spinning indicator)
The transfer took about 80m
Do not kill the MyTomTom process or you'll have to download the maps from TT all over again!
