That is exactly how my 3790T is fitted to the car, works a treat, I retain the windscreen sucker part for use in Hire cars but in the Volvo the supplied mount simply pushes on the Garmin sized "Ball" made by Brodit part number 215116 see Here (it simply screws to a Pro-Clip to fit your vehicle) - Mike |

I'm sorry to be blunt, but the way you lot keep plugging Brodit mounts, I'm becoming more & more certain that you must be share holders in the Brodit or DSL Developments companies.
Whereas I just see it for what it is.... Overpriced plastic junk. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

The question wasn't initiated by me, the OP said he was using a Brodit mount.
As for your opinion, you are entitled to it. Many like them, many think they're too expensive, each to their won. Bad day? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yep stitched up at work. Should've been a short day, instead became a damned long one. Not fun when you start at 4am. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

|
|
I've a TomTom XL Live IQ Routes, but it's close to two years old and I'm being asked to fork out for LIVE Services at £47 and maps at £39. I'd like to replace it, but am not sure what do do for the best.
So, I have some questions for the experts:
- Just how far away is TMC from HD Traffic? I've been comparing the new TomTom HD Traffic online map with the Michelin Map (with I think gets data from TMC). I drive from Yorkshire to Edinburgh, London or Bristol around once a month and so am a motorway driver; but not always on the road. Is TMC good enough for all practical purposes?
- Is there an IQ routes equivalent for the Garmin?
I'd like Eco Routes on my TomTom, but think there is no support for it. I know the savings will be exaggerated, but would like the option of spending a little less on Derv.
Any pointers would be appreciated.

Can itinerary routes planned in TYRE originally for a TT device and then saved as Garmin gpx files be used on these new Garmin units? |

From the "Tyre" FAQ page:
Garmin
Tyre will cooperate with your Garmin device, if it meets these requirements:
Your device must be visible for Windows as a 'drive' (you can check this in 'My Computer').
Your device must have the proper folder structure:
A folder called '\Garmin\GPX'. This is the folder where your itinerary files will be stored.
Or:
Two separate folders from the root: '\Garmin' and '\GPX', where the latter will be used to store your itinerary files.
My guess it will be fine as Garmin devices don't hide the drive letter from the PC - Mike |

Just picked up a 2460LT to replace a week-old 3760LT.
The 3760 looked great but this morning it took nearly 20 minutes to get a GPS lock in clear sky with no tall buildings around. Totally unacceptable.
It also needed to be re-paired with my phone every time I used it, was too quiet or distorted when out of the cradle, and the shiny screen was just a PITA. This was all with the latest firmware.
Now I have my 2460LT and I have to agree 100% with the 2360LT review here.
It locks onto a signal as soon as it's powered up, remembers the bluetooth pairing, speaker is LOUD, screen is a great size, voice commands work pretty well (except if the car is noisy). Not had a chance to try the routing out in anger yet, but for the short time I've had it, it seems very good.
Interestingly, traffictrends is disabled by default...
In general, a more practical and robust solution and well worth the asking price. |

I find the bigger screen of the 2460 appealing but as far as I can see it does not do portrait which is a big negative for me. _________________ Nexus 7 (2013) & Nexus 4/Sygic/CamerAlert

I see from the manual the 2360 seems to be the only model in several ranges, covered by the manual, that DOES have portrait/landscape orienting. Why is Garmin so nitpicky? _________________ David

I had a look just now & Amazon are doing the Garmin Nuvi 2360LT for £216+£5, which undercuts the so called superior 3790T by £4.
I still say that the 3790T needs a complete new software rewrite, so this new one maybe the answer, somehow I doubt it will "Cut the mustard" though. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

I must be honest and admit that I found £25 to be a tad expensive for my 215116 but I had no other choice as I wanted to dash mount it without holes. _________________ DashCam:

Well, I've taken the plunge and ordered a 2360LT from Handtec at £164.39 plus delivery.
As our cars all have Pro-clip/Move-clip combinations already installed I've also ordered a Brodit mount from car-mounts.co.uk (aka Morpeth Mobiles from whom I have had good service in the past) at £14.15 including delivery. I could have paid £25-odd to someone else advertising stock in hand but I am not that desperate to have it ASAP.
Will feed back impressions and experiences in due course _________________ Nexus 7 (2013) & Nexus 4/Sygic/CamerAlert

2360 arrived today. Connected to PC via mount to charge and first impressions quite good as I sat and explored features and tried things out. Left it charging while I had my dinner, came back an hour later and its dropped into demo mode, seems to have turned off GPS reception and wants to be taken for a drive to condescend to turn on GPS and stop the demo. Anyone know how to stop this nonsense? I can't be having this every time its not been used for real for a while and I want to sit and do some route planning or some other legitimate activity. Presumably its not unique to the 2360 among Nuvi units? _________________ Nexus 7 (2013) & Nexus 4/Sygic/CamerAlert

I can't make my mind up on the 2360T and the 1390T.
the 2360T has TrafficTrends and VoiceControl
But as the 1390T has TMC I assume it will be able to take into account CURRENT traffic vs. historical - so wouldn't that be just as good.
If it is just as good, then I assume the only advantage is voice control - at a £50 premium
Also, when the 2360T plans its route, will it notify you about the London congestion charge and give you an option to accept or route around? or does the 2460T do this? |
