jackbarry wrote: | Well I've posted my 750 as under 2 minutes just now. I never expected this to happen as yesterday when in use it did not pick up HD Traffic at all in over 1hr's driving! I was getting really concerned as this had been happening over 2 days and I had also had the resetting "bug or feature" happening again! |
FWIW, my experience is that generally the latest firmware is pretty good and doesn't crash most of the time. Indeed, I can do Cumbria to Derbyshire and around without incident. The address selection is known to cause a crash, which is a pain, but it only rarely resets when driving. However, when it does reset, it rarely manages to sort itself out properly the first time. Sometimes it will spot it isn't right yet and reset itself again. But about half the time I have to power cycle it myself to sort it properly.
The reason I mention this in context of your message is that in that "half reset" mode, it isn't able to talk to the services for traffic at all. Thus if you are going for over 5 mins without traffic, and you are not in the middle of nowhere (so no signal), then a manual restart will probably sort it out. |

From my reading on this topic I have gained the impression that it is the early X40s (pre Euro-roaming at purchase, SIMs) that also had the earlier (was it v9.054?) SIM1008 error, that seem to be having the delay problem now. _________________ Drivelux |

I can directly compare a 750 and a 940 both running Navcore 9.058 at the same address.
The 750 brings up the blue traffic bar very quickly within 15 seconds (this is after I enter the four digit PIN number the unit has set on it which only takes 5 to 10 seconds after switch on) but then the number of incidents takes a further 1 minute 15 seconds to appear. This makes 1 minute 30 seconds in total to complete HD Traffic connection and number of incidents information download.
On the 940 it consistently takes almost exactly 2 minutes for the blue traffic bar to appear after entering the four digit PIN number (again takes 5 to 10 seconds after switch on) and then a further 1 minute 15 seconds for the number of traffic incidents to be reported and for the scrolling wheel in the blue bar to disappear.
This seems to suggest that the time taken to retrieve the traffic information is the same by the 740 and 950 after connection to TomTom's traffic servers (1 minute and 15 seconds) but that getting an initial connection to the TomTom traffic servers takes much longer for the 940 (2 minutes) than the 750 (15 seconds) so the total time to get the number of traffic incidents displayed from switch on is 3 minutes and 15 seconds on the 940 compared to 1 minute 30 seconds on the 750. I strongly suspect the time taken to log on to the TomTom traffic servers would be greatly reduced on the 940 if the SIM card was replaced with one of the newer Vodafone cards fitted as standard in the x50 series. Andy_P has had his 940 upgraded with one of these newer stock Vodafone SIM cards by TomTom and manages to get the number of incidents data displayed at least a minute more quickly on his 940 than on my 940 with the original Vodafone SIM card.
I cast my vote for my 940 at over 2 minutes as this is also my own unit while the 750 belongs to a relative.
The 750's SIM "Model" is 00.01.06_EU and the 940's SIM "Model" is 00.01.04 (no _EU mentioned). Both have the same MCC/MNC of 23415. I think I am definitely going to ask David Watkins (head of customer services) at TomTom to install a new SIM card at the same time as I take up their offer to return the unit to fix the failed spring in the On/Off switch free of charge even though I am a few months out of warranty.
Perhaps Andy_P could tell us the SIM Model number currently fitted to his 940. |

I can indeed.
Unfortunately, it blows that theory... it's 00.01.04 (no EU mentioned)
MCC/MNC is also 23415

My SIM is 00.01.04 (No EU mentioned). It connects to the network within a second or two of being turned on, but just take ages to logon to the TT Servers for any live service. _________________ Drivelux |

|
|
When I first upgraded from v8 to v9 of Navcore it wasn't too bad. Unfortunately the delay seadily got much worse with 3 attempts on consecutive days all over 3 minutes:-
#1
Power on to GPS lock 46 seconds
Power on to traffic lock 217 seconds (3 Mins 37 seconds)
#2
Power on to GPS lock 44 seconds
Power on to traffic lock 187 seconds (3 Mins 7 seconds)
#3
Power on to GPS lock 66 seconds
Power on to traffic lock 230 seconds (3 Mins 50 seconds)
Support couldn't resolve and I'm now back to v8.371. I did like the look of the new software but can't live with an almost 4 min wait..... _________________ TomTom 940 GO Live

He's been banned twice before under other usernames. Just took time to prove it was the same person. Have a look at his tag. |

Just a comment, in that I suspect most people with the fast load times on the x40 are using V8 software. _________________ Drivelux |

Oh hell... I should have stipulated v9 software in the original post.
Anybody want to start again?
A poll like this (but better worded!) is the only way to get an accurate idea of how widespread the problems are. |

Andy,
If you are starting another poll, would you be able to give 8 choices:
Under 2 minutes on a Go x40 8.371
Under 2 minutes on a Go x40 9.058
Over 2 minutes on a Go x40 8.371
Over 2 minutes on a Go x40 9.058
Under 2 minutes on a Go x50 8.371
Under 2 minutes on a Go x50 9.058
Over 2 minutes on a Go x50 8.371
Over 2 minutes on a Go x50 9.058
assuming there are any x50s using 8.371. _________________ John
