Every time I try to add poi's to tomtom (latest version) It won't start. I have pocket sc and checkpoint running fine, but if i try to add any poi's tomtom refuses to start, it works fine again when I delete the added poi's. why is this?

I'm not sure if you are talking about your own POIs within other people's files, or the POIs available from here.

However, I have found that occasionally you will download an icon or a POI file which TomTom will not like, and the next time you try to run TT it gets upset.

Sometimes all you need to do is to cut the files out of the map directory into a temp directory, start up TomTom, then shut it down again, and then move the files back and then it will work fine.

I've no idea why this happens, and I have to say it always seems to happen for me with the same POI file downloaded from here Sad

I had this problem and still TT have been unable to find an answer, but here I found the suggestion that it was a corrupt bitmap file.

So I wiped the bitmaps and started again with fresh images - works like a dream.

If you were downloading from here - try cut'n'pasting the files from here into a temp directory, get TomTom to start again, and then copy them back one by one until you find the one with the problem. Once identified, try downloading it again or let us know which one it is (I've an idea, but I don't want to pre-empt the situation)

Airfields, steam trains and national trust, all loaded seperately and together, all cause the same issue. Does that help??

Hmm, no - I've got most of them loaded, and they are fine. Have you tried downloading again?

Hi ARH,

IIRC, the bitmap of the Steam Train POI may be faulty.

Have a look at the definitions of that bitmap file. The maximum it should be is 8 bit (i.e. 256 colours). If it’s greater than 256 colours then save it as a 256 colour bitmap. Thumbs Up

Regards,

TomTom should know about the problem. It is down to the .bmp files bein the wrong format. To use some technical jargon they need to be 256 colour (8bit) bit map files. Anything else causes TomTom to fail.

This thread provides more information on creating the POI Bitmaps.

Well it would seem the steam trains .bmp was 17*14*16 million colours, with just the .ov2 file it booted fine, put the steam train .bmp in and it refused to boot. I changed it to 256 colours and it worked fine.

I will download the pois i want again and try from there.

Thanks to all for your help

Adrian.

've just downloaded some more poi's and all the bmp files are in 16 million colours according to PSP6, I changed them all to 256 colours and it is starting fine

Should these pics not be changed?

Thanks
