Yes, if you want to load every POI set individually, and have no desire for custom audio alerts.
Yes it is working, but it's a long way off acceptable, and a long way off what was promised. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have a one year old Go 550, so just about to renew 'live' subscription and possibly maps. Given that involves spending money then I'm wondering what my options are, possibly buying something new and selling the 550 on fleabay to get a few £'s back, might not actually cost too much to buy new ...
But I'm seeing very mixed reviews about the '1000 live' to the point where I'm wondering if is worth buying one just yet. As at now has the issue of 3rd party POI's been resolved? Given the other concerns about the 1000 if it still is not able to accept 3rd party POI's then it seems like buying one isn't a good move just yet.
any thoughts please? |

A limited implementation of custom POIs is now available on the device. Overall it's a good device with lots to commend it, but still very much a work in progress. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Many of the so called poor reviews are from people that don't own a GO 1000.
As Darren says, it is still work in progress with all the missing features slowly being fixed, but POI are working fine.
The Live services, fast route calculations and no reboots while driving are all good reasons to buy one now.
Some items still missing are mapshare and itinery planning, and ability to buy/install a different map region. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

It's nice to read something positive about the GO1000Live - I've had mine for a little while now and I am very impressed with it. I knew in advance that it was missing/delayed some of the usual TT features such as ability to load 3rd party POIs, Itinerary planning etc and I don't like some downloads (apparently) being installed without knowing what they are, however I am prepared to wait. When these missing features are all available, then this be the best device I have used/seen to date. _________________ Gee-Pee

I'm holding off from moving to the GO 1000 until things improve, as Darren says 'its work in progress' Plus i've about 6 months left on my live services, so i'm going to wait a few months longer - knowing my luck just as i upgrade TT will then bring out a new model
It is also worth remembering that not all the poor reviews are from people who don't own a GO 1000 _________________ Keith

I'm one of those who don't own one. My 950 will have to do until I can get a device that can hold US and European maps at the same time. They seem to be providing something like that in Australia, so hopefully they will in the UK.

I'm one of those that do...
I feel the new models have SO MUCH potential (new hardware, faster processors etc.)
But at the moment they deliver so much LESS than they should be capable of.
So much effort has been put into locking down the system to avoid the user being able to access it, that they seem to have shot themselves in the foot concerning features and usability.
(How much of that is down to the lawsuit from Microsoft and how much is down to trying to stop map piracy, we'll never know).
If they could make a fully-functioning "Go940" using the hardware of the Go1000, I would be ecstatic, and I'm sure thousands of other owners would be too.
THEN I could start pressing them to produce an app store and a software developers kit so that enthusiasts could get back to making it EVEN BETTER with some (suitably managed) addons.
TT are missing a HUGE revenue stream by ignoring this desire for customisation. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

I totally agree with Andy_P. I've had my TomTom GO LIVE 1005 for about a month now and I've just spent the last 2 weeks driving round most of the country, to a lot of places I've never been to and many destinations every day.
The 1005 has been great. I've used the live services extensively to find cash machines, petrol stations, restaurants etc. and they all worked well. The unit has been solid and reliable so far. I have uploaded the PGPSW camera warnings and switched off TomTom's own ones. That all worked too.
I do believe the new models have a huge potential and my only criticism of TomTom is that they released these before they had MyTomTom software and website up and running properly. This will unfortunately frustrate people who will not be able to do all the things that the unit is capable of doing.
To me the things I'd like to be able to do most is upload my own voices and POI warning sounds and map colours - all of which I was able to do on my TomTom 950 and which made the unit much more pleasant to use.
I wonder what's the best way to put pressure on TomTom to get these facilities implemented as soon as possible ? |

Bluetooth audio output using A2DP has never been fitted to the Go-1000 which is why it won't connect to the iO-Play - Mike |

Thank you for your reply
So basically it's useless with io play. Ok so I will sell this one.
Which ones do work with IO play please
I bought the IO Play to make my life a bit easier as I'm disabled and would like it all to work together on one think instead of lots of different buttons :o) x

Any of the Go-x10, x20, x30, x40 or x50 models, if you want European mapping look for a new Go-750 Live but add in the cost of a 4GB MicroSD class 6 memory card. For UK & ROI useage a Go-550 Live will be fine.
None of the current model range support audio out via A2DP which is what you need to work with the iO-Play - Mike - Mike |

Is there any hack/crack or 3rd party software available so that the 1000 is viewable in windows (not as a nic controller) but as a device so that we can view the files/folders on it ?
Or a hack available for TomTom Home 2 so that its recognised in there ? |
