|
|
Hi,
Someone from TomTom phoned me today (completely unexpected) to offer a XL LIVE for £120inc VAT and delivery, with 12 month live subscription, and able to move my map update service to the new device.
I currently have a 510, and am pretty happy with it - although do like the sound of lane assistance, iq routes and hd traffic. Are they worth it? The marketing blurb reads well, whats it like in practice?
I presume I can use the pgpsw speed cameras still?
Also is it a good deal, can't see anyone selling the XL for much less that £150. |

If that is with Europe maps, not a bad deal.
I picked one up just before Christmas for £125 with UK maps. |

Very nice device in my opinion.
Only two drawbacks are
1. I don't like the Easyport "ring" mount too much - sticks well, but I find I pull the unit off the mount if I try to adjust it.
and
2. you're up against the dreaded "not enough room for the complete new Europe map" scenario, because there's only 2GB internal memory and no SD card-slot for expansion.
That means you get the new Europe map in four "zones" and can only load one of them onto the unit at a time.
That doesn't bother me particularly, but if you did a lot of cross-border driving across Europe it might irritate you. |

I did wonder... as sounded a bit "scammy". However have since had email from TomTom verifying the offer.
My first thought was maybe the maps are going to change format in a way that is not comparable with the software on the 510 - which as I have the map update service would have been an issue. |

Only regional (UK&IRL) version has this problem. The Via 120 Europe has 4 GB internal memory so no problem at all.
And BTW at the moment if you have a regional version there is no way to buy and install a new Europe map.... so no problem either |

The device in question is the XL Live which does have the 2GB memory limit issue - Mike |

As it is a replacement for a 510 and a map subscription service, it is more likely to be the Regional device with 1Gb memory. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

You will be able to update the maps but instead of the device having full European mapping it will be zonal. You can download all four zones to your computer and swap them to/ from the device as you want but you can't drive across Europe with the device in the same way as was possible pre-zonal maps - Mike |

Have a look at This Page, UK to Paris won't be an issue though - Mike |
