No apology necessary, not everyone will know of that site or it's primary purpose, software piracy. So no linking to them please, either in the open forum or the PM system. _________________ Darren Griffin |

It was on my old webspace and I've changed domain... |

Wasn't the eventual conclusion that appending the second verson of the extra set of lines to EnglishGbTT.rex listed By Greenglide on page 10 of this thread with a Linux text file editor was the better option? If so if there is any chance you could also provide an amended version of the EnglishGbTT.rex file for people to download as an alternative to your five new files?
However does installing your five new files and also amending EnglishGbTT.rex provide the best of all possible worlds or do the five new files clash with the amended version of EnglishGbTT.rex with the extra lines in it? |

I believe that they both achieve the same result but appending the lines to the EnglishGbTT.rex is simpler.
I dont think they will clash but I assume that the files that Marvin2003 will process the text first and the new rules in EnglishGbTT.rex would never be triggered.
Posting a version of EnglishGbTT.rex may not be ideal as it may differ between versions of the hardware (x30, x40, x50) and country of origin ad the map supplied with the device.
Could try though. _________________ TomTom Go 540 - V9.058, Map GB & Ireland 860.3101

Weren't your EnglishGBTT.rex file extended rules in theory a little more sophisticated than the rules in Marvin's five files? Also would processing five files rather than just one amended one in any way unacceptably slow speech commands on a TomTom device?
I think for the average non techncially literate but Satnav using punter adding five new files to a directory on their unit will seem simpler than having to find a Unix/Linux file editor to edit an existing fle.

Good point. It may therefore be that Marvin's file extra files are the best approach if they contain all of the pronunication enhancements that have so far been discovered. |

Basically virtually any text editor apart from notepad understands the difference between the windows and the unix end of record sequence.
It is horses for courses - adding a few lines to the end of the files is simple so far as I am concerned and is easier to maintain should better versions come along but other people may find it easier to copy the five files.
I am an IT professional and sometimes find it difficult to decide what will be easier for others to understand. It is much easier when there is only one solution! _________________ TomTom Go 540 - V9.058, Map GB & Ireland 860.3101

Or in notepad for that matter.
But can they be saved again without modifying the format in to a non Unix/Linux one that the TomTom Navcore won't understand. My experience with similar files on a Linux based S1 Tivo operating system is that you must use an editor that saves the files in a Linux compatible format (it all has to do with Carriage Returns and Line Feeds and the different ways they are used) or things won't work any more. |

Well I dunno about you, jamsie, but me, I'm going to stick with my local Caernarvon Road pronounced "Chayanaravon Road". I don't even know how to pronounce it properly myself so who am I to moan about Jane? _________________ Dennis

If you can get "Jane" to pronounce ANY road names, you're cleverer than the rest of us, Dennis. |

It's OK for you - I have to drag my SD card out of the van (after going through the correct procedure for preparing it for removal) to get it in here, only to find that you can't Operate My Carminat in Home to check what her name is. Last time I looked at them (on 520/550), I thought she must actually be foreign, called "something chk". _________________ Dennis
