Heresy? Not at all, one of the 'features' of our service is we are open and honest about it, and happy to be so.

You're not the first to make such an observation and you won't be the last, but you will be wrong.
As other have said, these cameras don't get into the database without good reason. There was one close to me that I had never personally seen in 5+ years until last week. So it matters not how often you drive a route, they are there because they have been seen by multiple members. And if they aren't seen again within 12mths they are removed.

No-one gets a Lifetime membership for a mobile unless it meets our qualifying criteria, and they are more stringent for mobiles than any other camera type. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Sounds more like Vascar to me, especially if they follow you and pull you over - worth knowing where they perch though. |

Not necessarily, they could be using a laser speed gun to pick a target first. But either way, one worth knowing about. _________________ Darren Griffin |

True - but neither is 'photographic' |

Before I've even read the rest of the thread/replies, this mobile camera was submitted by one of our verifiers in March last year and has been reported as 'seen again' earlier this month.
So, it's not a common location (eg every week etc) but it is somewhere that has been used at least twice in 10 months.

just to make things more difficult for us all, ive now spotted 5 days in a row a smart car with the camera on its roof. these have been around the brent and harrow area in nw london. i know these are mainly for bus lane/yellow lines/hash boxes etc BUT i also saw one on the M1 recently with its camera facing forward. any idea if these can be used for mobile speed traps or maybe he was just on his way home |

I've not seen or heard of one being used for speed enforcement purposes yet. The only ones I know of have CCTV and are used for bus lane and other traffic infringements. _________________ Darren Griffin |

i THINK the Smart car's are basically mobile CCTV eg to catch people on phones, not wearing seatbelts etc. As far as I'm aware they don't do speed checks.

As I live / work in the boroughs of Harrow and Brent, unfortunately for my work/life balance. I was informed these Smart cars are to enforce the road/traffic offences taken out of remit of police and now enforceable by local authorities.
I don't for one minute think this is a hard or fast rule.
And, strange as it may seem, I have never seen one!!
But they may well have seen me -
