But I note that Google Maps Navigation does have a night mode, which activates automatically when Google believes it's night at my location. So perhaps Google will soon release the how-to for developers? |
these are 2 very different things. basically the maps we use in our app (and indeed any maps powered by the android SDK) are bitmap files. we can only use what google make available which are simply the normal colour scheme for google maps. the gogle navigation renders it's own maps and roads (hence why the street names are always the right way etc).

Do the camera-ahead warning and the all-clear share the same distance setting? If they do, could they be given different settings? -- or have I missed something? |
the all clear is set in code to sound 4 seconds after passing a camera.

Is it on the side you were travelling when you clicked the report button, is was it on the other carriageway? _________________ Darren Griffin |

But you can only edit cameras in-app that you have passed and reported. So the question 'This Side' or 'Other Side' applies. Was it on your side when you passed it or the other side.
If you haven't passed it, and you want to submit a change, you need to do so from the web-site submissions page. _________________ Darren Griffin |

if in doubt add a voice note along the lines of "it needs changing to the opposite direction to that which is already in the database" (or something more concise )

I note that on the CamerAlert user guide, you are continuing to perpetuate the myth:
"With this screen you can now specify which direction the camera monitors. Please bear in mind that some cameras (SPECs and Truvelo) take forward facing images and others take rear facing images."
Can I suggest that you remove the Truvelo from the examples of forward-facing cameras. Although it can (& regularly does!) take forward-facing photos, it can also take rear-facing photos. Constantly referring to Truvelos as forward-facing cameras gives the impression that they can only take photos of the front of the car.
Unfortunately, I know to my cost that this isn't true. I used to regularly pass a Truvelo on my way to work. I believed that it was only a forward-facing camera because I had read this so many times. I was therefore taken by complete surprise when I received an NIP showing a time when the camera couldn't have taken a picture of the front of my car - when I requested a copy of the photo, it clearly showed the rear.
I think this just goes to show that the continued references to Truvelos as forward-facing cameras are very misleading, and should be changed. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Hi, Daggers
It says Here:- TRUVELO.
Quote: | Do not assume therefore that Truvelo's operate only in forward facing mode. |
Take Care

Yes, but that's not on (or referenced from) the CamerAlert User Guide page. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Duly noted.
I have changed it to
Quote: | Please bear in mind that some cameras (SPECs and Truvelo) can be installed to operate in forward or rear facing modes whereas others operate in rear facing mode only." |

Out of interest, do you know the CameraID of the Truvelo that caught you? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yes - it was 5474 in the village of Farthinghoe, Northants. It's already marked as bi-directional. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

So had that camera been turned around to face SE or did it catch you as you passed it heading NW? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I was travelling SE at the time (towards MK), though I have seen that camera pointing in both directions.
It has been quite a while since I passed that way, so I can't comment on its current situation. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |
