Hi,
I have managed to loose the UK - Ireland maps folder from
my tomtom one 3rd edition.
Ive tried cutting & pasting the folder from my wife's tomtom
one 3rd edition but it comes up with an error massage on start
up "you cannot use this map on this device"
I phoned up tomtom support & they inform me that the maps
are protected and want £30.00 for a new map......CRIMINALS.
I dont mind buying maps for other countries but Im not happy
having to buy a map I already own.
Anybody any idea,s where I can get a map from or unlock
the map I have.
Many Thanks. |

It's illegal to use a map designed for one device on another machine - this is a breach of the licensing rules, so you won't be able to copy from one to another.
Have you ever made any back-ups of your device?
If not, then make one of your wife's TomTom NOW, before anything similar happens to that one. Use Windows Explorer, not TomTom Home, to make the back-up. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Have you ever downloaded a newer map since you bought the unit?
If yes, the map should still be on your PC in the TT download folder. _________________ Richard

And if you haven't, I'd guess your lost map is so old you need a later one anyway. _________________ Dennis

You've not made it clear but are they expecting you to pay for the same map VERSION you already have or a newer updated version? |

Remember, in common with other software (i.e. just about every program on your PC too) you DON'T own the map, only a licence to use it on one machine and under certain other conditions.
It's essential to protect your investment by making backups, as gets shouted from the rooftops on this forum (and its mentioned in every TomTom user manual AFAIK). |
