Two points.
1. Wow, just looked on the AA link (above), talk about jumping on the bandwagon, anything to make a profit. How long before these courses are offered in leu of prosecution for Red lights jumping, due care, using phone whilst driving etc. Don't forget Governments (of all political persuasions) are keen to reduce the load on the criminal courts and thus save them money.
2. You don't honestly think the motor insurance companies are going to mis-out on making more profit. They already ask for driving convictions in the last 5 years (most offences are clear off your licence after 4 years).
Watch, the courses will run for another year ot two and the motor insurance companies will start asking "Have you ever attended a driver awareness course, or required to attend a similar course, in the last 5 years" and guess what... up goes your premium.
In the long run I believe the only people gaining from these ideas are the private companies runing the courses, the offending drivers are going to pay more, in the long run. _________________ HUAWEI P30 Pro (new edition) with Speedtrap Alert & alcatel1 for SatNav

Why are they dressing this up as something new and innovative? North Wales have been running speed awareness courses in lieu of fixed penalties for years ... |

As you will be aware, the SCamera Partnerships are no longer allowed to keep the revenue from the speeding fines and they will have to foot the bill for operating the speed cameras themselves.
Interest in speed awareness courses has surged because the SCamera Partnerships realise that they can generate revenue from running these courses whereas all the revenue from fines would go directly to the Exchequer. The revenue from the courses could be offset against the running costs of the speed cameras.
Organisations like the AA who run these courses make money out of them so they also see them as a good idea. _________________ Gone fishing! |
