I have never backed up my unit software on ANY of my sat navs now or in the past.
Quite simply .... I'm gob-smacked and I hope nobody else reading this follows your example. I don't know about Garmin, Navman and any other fancy kit you own, but even TomTom often advise doing a backup before running some updates.
So all your eight devices are still inside warranty. And I always thought I held the record for having more money than sense!! _________________ Dennis

I never said it wasn't a good idea, just that I don't choose to do it, as its time investment for me is better spent doing other things. If they go belly-up outside of warranty, lets me honest, by then there is usually something much better we really really want, but don't really need, so that could become my excuse for the NEXT best satnav
Over the many years, only two sat-navs have given up on me, and neither was software related and wouldn't have been fixed by back-ups _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

Well I get different version numbers of qGPS when I update my two TTs at the same time? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

I have an apology to make to Thomas. I made a somewhat unclever remark that Thomas would not connect. I phoned up TT and they went through everything and then said they would get I.T. to ring.
While I was waiting I pondered. A deep ponder it was and then I thought I have recently changed from AVG Pro to Bitdefender. So I disabled the firewall and Thomas immediately connected. I rang back TT to tell them what had caused the problem and apologised for wasting their time. 30 years in I.T. should have at least caused a bell to ring but since I have retired, fewer and fewer bells rings albeit I have one that does in my ear.
So for connecting probs I would suggest checking firewall first. Merry Xmas to everyone and my grand daughter wants to know if Santa Claus has to use a Satnav or does Rudolf do a better job.
