This looks like is could be a useful solution for using the iPhone as a sat nav and camera warning device in the car. If it works well then I may consider replacing my factory fitted car sat nav unit which isn't exactly brilliant.

Saw this a few days back. Clever but seems like overkill to me.
Wouldn't a cradle mounted higher on the dash be cheaper and more effective? Assuming you have Line-In on the head-unit you could achieve all that offers for a fraction of the cost.
Unlike most in-dash navs that have large screens, an iPhone in the same location would not be great for navigation IMO? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I like the idea of this because it would be a neat solution in the car and I think would make a better car stereo than the Nexus unit fitted to my Octavia. The screen size wouldn't be a huge issue for me but I would like to know that the sat nav audio will also be broadcast through the car speakers alongside any music I wish to play.
The line in is located within the central arm rest in my car so to use that with the iPhone in a cradle would leave wires trailing across the dash. There is the possibility that the GPS in the iPhone would be useless when installed within the head unit so it may not be practical in use. |

Have a look at the iO-Play accessory for the car as that lets you use the cars CD/ Radio and have the audio from the iPhone through the car speakers. You can also play music from the iPhone via the iO-Play.
Better still, no wires are involved as it uses Bluetooth for the audio transfer and doubles as a handsfree kit should you want to receive calls while on the move - Mike |
