There have been a flurry of reports recently about it on other user-forums.

Mine rebooted while driving last night. It seemed to do a cold boot with an extra boot screen before the splash screen, but regained GPS lock very quickly.

Haven't you found them yet? Are those blinkers that big??

Yep, I got them off of you Darren

And still no real response. Yawn

Have you taken a backup copy of it yet? Y'know, the sort of thing I've got for all my devices so that I can restore them if they fall over?

While following an itinerary (which obviously I had to set up on one of my other TomToms Wink ), I thought it would be nice to change the Go1000 to a different, male, TTS voice to differentiate it from the other device.
Ahhh... No more voices Sad

Then I thought I would check the map for the place I was going to visit next.
Oops! the map view has defaulted back to an overview of my current route again. Grrrr

Oh, hang on I need to switch the safety camera warnings on, because I can't add my own ones. Damn! I'll have to take my gloves off because the screen won't respond unless I do! Evil or Very Mad

And I need to get some petrol soon, I'll just check the fuel prices near me....
Oh we don't get those any more.... Mad

Still, Home soon, I'll connect up to my PC and see if any of this has been sorted yet although it will probably tell me I'm not connected yet again. (Even though I've been getting the "connected to computer" icon while I'm still in the car recently! Shocked )

But of course you're right. These aren't really 'bugs', they're 'features' Wink

Thanks Jaguar.... I'll pass it on.

Thanks Jaguar.... I'll pass it on.

And again this morning...
Within a mile of the same location as last night, it took 3 minutes for the HD traffic to reconnect, but it is an area with patchy Vodafone coverage.

And again at lunch time, while sitting on my desk. There is no GPS signal here, but it had just downloaded the traffic information,

Mine started re-booting yesterday morning and has continued at about 30 min intervals ever since. I spoke to TT Support today and they said they were aware of the problem because lots of users were phoning in. Unfortunately they have no fix for this at present but are "working on it". The slightly worrying thing is that the Tech Support guy asked me whether I had recently updated the unit via computer!!! He seemed not to be aware that this is not yet possible with the 1000/1005 range. Didn't really inspire me with confidence!

Just a though but with many different devices being affected by this re-booting issue on a number of different GPS forums I wonder if its down to a duff qGPS data (again).

As I recall the qGPS data is one of the few data files the Go-1K range can update by using its built in modem, this is one of the few files that is common across the product range...... - Mike

This is not a bug, but a limitation

Never mind, just keep within the legal limit. Again this is not a big, but software feature to install them not a unit problem, which is what was being inferred. As for the gloves? Now you cannot be seriously suggesting resistive touch-screens are better than capacitive all of which require a human figure touch (or something similar!). If you are, then we have no hope in you accepting progress. Or using any half-decent smartphone. Or doing much else soon! Just keep those damn gloves off and enjoy the fluid response of these new screens

A change in feature offering, presumably because they have chosen to offer their Live package at a reduced rate. And there is only so much you can get for your buck. For me and many who do a lot of driving we know the price we need to pay and full up when we see a decent deal - or have a fuel card, where you pay the same price everywhere. I accept for some this was a worthwhile feature, but driving out of your way to save a few pence when you could do the same just by being aware never really grabbed me. Again not a bug, but a choice they made - like it or not

Agreed this doesn't function properly but for me if I wait a short while it shows up connected correctly. This should work, and will do soon. But keeping to the issue, this is not a unit bug as suggested there are, but a software issue on the PC

I really don't know why no one has come back with specifics of unit bugs when this was what was stated, only keep coming back to the software issue, which we all know needs addressing (and TomTom have confirmed this is happening). Perhaps because there are so few issues?

Or perhaps because they don't own or use the units, in which case best not comment on something they know little about

My 940 has had a few unexpected reboots over the past week and these still occured after a complete restore so either duff qGPS OR duff HD traffic data. No problems with the 530 so I suspect corrupted HD traffic data.

For someone who likes the latest gadgets, I am still not yet willing to upgrade.

Not to be contrary ExtraSeller, but with all the current limitations and removed features, coupled with the rebooting problem that users won't be able to sort on their own and assorted Home connection issues, what is it that makes the new 1000/1005 the best satnav on the market? There's models with much better screen resolution, or more connected features, or less prone to OS problems. TomTom's Live Traffic gets thumbs up from many users, and IQRoutes can help with rush hour routing, but you can get those on other TomTom models. Not saying in any way that it's a miserable device, but certainly not #1 in features, hardware or stability.

I am not saying it has everything

Navigon have better lane navigation (but everything is too small to see quickly)

Garmin have the best unit design (3790t) and excellent lane guidance coverage (better than anyone else)

And I have both these units

But my TomTom 1000 has a crisp display (better than anything with the exception of the 3790 which is stunning), good capacitive touch display controls, nice build quality (but bulky compared to the 3790) and very clear turn guidance and great vocal instruction

But what makes it the best sat nav for me is HD Traffic and IQ Routes - they just work. Even driving in areas I know relatively well, they save me time and frustration and give me very sensible routing (better than either Navigon or Garmin) almost every time. Now that is why I use my Sat Nav all day every day, and that is why for me the 1000 is best (and the mount is also simply the best yet)

As for custom POIs well they are coming, but for me and most other users (but obviously not on here!), I would prefer HD Traffic and IQ Routes over Custom POIs if I had a choice. I do, and I made mine. Maybe we should be able to have it all, and perhaps one day we will, but then we will probably want something else!

Ah, well the 1000 being the best choice for you personally is certainly something that can't be argued. Simply a matter of what's important to individual buyers. Smile

I think Jeremiah 5:21 applies here.

Unfortunately, the terms of the TomTom NDA prevent many of us from discussing bugs too specifically.

But in general terms, apart from the PC connection bug already mentioned, have you tried getting the device to read long text messages? Have you never had it fail to switch back from night colours in a reasonable time when you switch it on in the morning?

I could go on and on, but I'm probably in trouble already.

On occassions it takes between 10 secs and 120 secs to "recognise" it was switched off during darkness and awoken during the day. Considering the fast start-up times and it is connecting to a mobile network and downloading data at the same time, I don't think this is an issue

As for reading long text messages, I hardly use the bluetooth feature on any of the sat navs - so cannot comment

What I do know is from a to b it doesn't send me down country roads, into congested areas or give me unclear roundabout or turn directions

For me anyway that is what is important. And I am not blinkered by TomTom - its the first TomTom I like, I own current Garmin, Navman and Navigon units also, and would love to have a unit with features from each. But for now, and until something better comes along, I am happier with this unit than any other I own

Sorry DennisN missed that one...

I have never backed up my unit software on ANY of my sat navs now or in the past. But there I don't rely on them to store addresses, etc. other than about 10 locations, the rest I enter ad-hoc so if they go mildly wrong it is probably quicker to re-enter them than restore the unit

If something more serious goes wrong I have my warranty

To me it is not the same as my desktop, laptop, etc.

And most of my stuff I store "in the cloud" these days, and soon my TomTom will store and retrieve its stuff from there too... and sooner the better as far as I am concerned
