|
|
TomTom have advised me that new maps are available for my TTGo920.
Last time I downloaded new maps, my Speed Camera Warnings no longer worked as the POI's for the cameras and the warning sounds had disappeared. I had to go through the whole lot again, with each speed zone etc. Is there any way to avoid this when downloading new maps ? |

The file that holds the settings is called MapSettings.cfg
Copy this to a safe place, either on the PC, or a different place on the device.
After the Map has been updated, copy the backup file to the Map Folder to overwrite the new one that the update created. _________________ Richard

If that doesn't work, you can try connecting to Home and adding a Favourite using the "Operate My GO"* function. Doesn't matter where it is because once the unit is up and running you can delete it.
* Or whatever it is for the x20 series... |

Oldboy I have scrolled through all files for my device, but there is no file listed called MapSettings.cfg. I download my updates to 'Western & Central Europe' .
Paul I then tried your method, but although'Operate my Go' is shown on TT Home, when I clicked on it, it said 'Your device does not support this operation'.
Thanks for your very prompt replies, but I am no further forward at present. |

You should find the file in your 'Western & Central Europe' map folder. _________________ Anita

The MapSettings.cfg file is created by the device and used to store user settings such as POI warnings, a new map won't have a MapSettings.cfg file until it has been selected by the user for use on the device.
You can find your old MapSettings.cfg in the Western_Europe map folder of your OLD map, if Home or you have deleted this folder then you will be stuck with entering all the settings again.
Quite often Home needs to download a specific file to get get the emulator working, it should do this automatically though as I don't know of a way to manually provoke Home in to downloading the required file. As 8,351 has been released for some considerable time the file is certainly available - Mike |

The mapsettings.cfg file must exists as the device will not work without it. As others have said if it gets removed (pot luck) during an update the device will create an empty file when it is first booted after the update.
The important thing is to look within the MAP FOLDER not the general list of files as each separate MAP FOLDER will have its own mapsettings.cfg file. |

When I updated my map I also lost my 'Favourites' - are these in the same file as the POI warnings or are they somewhere else? |

Thanks again to all. Found the folder in location as described. Unfortunately after downloading new maps for 35 minutes, got a warning notice that the download was corrupted (or similar). Will try again to-day |

Had to refer back to this again with the latest download. This time I copied the Map Settings.cfg file to Desktop and then pasted it to Western & Central Europe after the download. This seemed to have worked as the Map Settings File had disappeared with the download, but is now back in the list of files for my TomTom under Western & Central Europe. Thanks again for the advice from previous posts. |

In no particular programming language other than the one I have made up for this post all that TT have to do is something like: -
In map folder ?????.?????.????? do
if exist file "mapsettings.cfg" rename it "oldmapsettings.cfg"
if exist file "mapsettings.cfg" delete "mapsettings.cfg"
if not exist "mapsettings.cfg" build file "mapsettings.cfg"
if exist "mapsettings.cfg" and if exist "oldmapsettings.cfg" and format is equal rename "mapsettings.cfg" to "holdmapsettings.cfg" and rename "oldmapsettings.cfg" to "mapsettings.cfg"
That's what we as users are expected to do so why cant TT? |

If I read your programming language correctly, that's exactly what TomTom already do.
Navecore 9 copies the settings from the old MapSettings.cfg and rebulds them into a new version.
Navcore 8 couldn't do it, so TT reacted to user complaints and added it. |

But its so simple why not just add it as an upgrade to Navcore 8 so the users of older devices can also benefit? What device level was Navcore 9 introduced to? Or can we get away with using Navcore 9 on earlier devices? |

Because they want people to buy new units. |
