Hi,
I have owned a Garmin Etrex now for a couple of years, and have mainly used it to find my way back to a strage hotel, usually when drunk. I now need a satnav system for my car. whats the best way to join my etrex to my laptop (software wise) I have a serial cable, and an oldish copy of microsoft autoroute. is this a viable answer?
If so, where can I get the instructions to set it up.
Thanks in advance

Hi Davy,
Which version of Autoroute are you running? I have 2003 and that has GPS support. The easiest way to find out if yours has is to look at the help file within Autoroute and see whether it has a section on configuring it for GPS. If it doesn't, I would assume that it has no GPS functionality and you would need to upgrade to a newer version.
It isn't the best software for GPS use in my opinion anyway, as it just gives you a moving arrow showing your location. It's better than nothing, but doesn't have the bells and whistles of other packages.
I would recommend that you look at the reviews on this site for PC software to see what is available and which might suit you.
Good luck!

I'm pretty certain that they don't - certainly my version has no voice commands. |

I also have a Road Angel. Someone tells me that I could use that as part of a satnav setup. any idea?

I'm not sure - it may have an output you could use, but the Etrex would work for sure.
