Astronut,
I think I know what your problem is here as I can categorically tell you that Chelmsford, Clitheroe and Nelson (Lancashire) are all listed in address look-up in V3.03(427). I do believe that you are experiencing the same problem as I had when I first tried to install the update. After installing V3.03(427) I went to "About" and true enough it said "TomTom Navigator 3.03 (427)" but in reality I was still running V3.01!!! I rein-installed V3.03 several more times but no change. The only way I could resolve the problem was to do a hard re-set and completely reinstall TomTom V.3.01 and then V3.03 update before it finally worked!! If you check back on the threads you will see other people had similar problems and had to resort to similar solutions! So even though your "About" is telling you that you are using V3.03(427) - you aint!!
Regards

Thanks for the advice. I'll set some time aside today and start from scratch. So should I apply the upgrade immediately after re-installing but before running tomtom for the first time (ie. before re-activation)?
Also, should I clear the CF card of the maps before re-installing as I don't think a hard-reset would do this but I could be wrong on this.
There are 2 updates on tomtom's site - one for GPS 3.03 and one for Navigator 3.03. Should I apply both updates or just the Navigator 3.03. In other words, is the GPS 3.03 update included in the Navigator 3.03 update? |

Astronut,
1. I installed 3.03 straight after re-installing 3.01 - I didn't have to re-activate it.
2. A hard re-set won't touch the data on your CF card - I re-formatted mine using "StorageTools" because I really did want a clean sheet of paper! It's up to you whether you want to do this though.
3. The Navigator 3.03 update also includes GPS 3.03 update.
Good luck

Thanks Tom, I'm just about to go ahead. I have storagetools and will use that to reformat to FAT32 as, after reading some other threads, this seems to be the way to go, although my CF card is extremely fast anyway (dane-elec 1GB 41x read, 35x write). Seeing as the maps are large files, then FAT32 would be better than the current FAT16 format.
I'll repost later with the results. |

Well I went through the motions of applying the upgrade. I didn't imagine it ;)
I decided not to format the CF card to FAT32 as benchmarking revealed that FAT16 (with 16k clusters) was fastest for map data.
Still haven't re-installed tomtom yet - that's the next step which I'm doing right after posting this. |

Taking Tom's advice, I've started with a clean sheet. I've even applied the rom upgrade from iPAQ although this wasn't necessary as I already had v1.10 but I wanted to make sure I was absolutely 'clean' before re-installing everything. I even did a hard-reset before I applied the rom update (again, unnecessary).
Before the above, I installed the trial version of pocket mechanic to do some quick benchmarking of my CF card and found the best format was FAT16 with 16k clusters.
I then re-installed TomTom, installed the GB and major roads of Europe maps to the CF card and applied the upgrade to v3.03 before running TomTom for the first time.
With fingers crossed, I went to the map view, hit the find icon and typed in 'nelson'.
TADA!! fanfare 'Nelson (Lancashire)' came up. w00tles :D
Same result with 'Clitheroe', 'Chelmsford', Whitby (North Yorks), Scarborough, Aylesbury, etc, etc.
So I'm pleased to say I am definitely up and running with v3.03 (427).
Big thanks to Tom, yay! |

All three appear in "Find" for me. Perhaps you need to try loading the GB Map again. Mystery to me.....
