Hi Guys

After downloading the new 860 map my 750 just continually reboots. I've tried connecting to home to save a favourite etc but can't operate my device on two computers; home just errors in both cases. I read the post about deleting the map settings file, but don't know whether this was successful or not. I really would appreciate some help to sort this out.
thanks.

Did you actually try deleting the mapsettings.cfg file?

No have not tried that yet as I didn't know whether it was successful or not.

You won't know until you try!

Just copy the file to your PC first and then delete the mapsettings.cfg file. If you back it up first you can always copy it back if you need / want to.

On my 930 after updating to 8.60, the only way I could get it to start normally was to do a reset.
I love the fact the updates promise more but usually fail to deliver (in a BIG way!)
Suppose I should be used to Tomtom letting me down......

I'll try the map settings file later and let you know how I get on. I've already tried numerous resets and it made no difference at all.

Similar problem with my XXL - map download / install completed but can't use the device, just hangs then reboots.
Deleted MapSettings.cfg and all worked ok.
Tried to put my backup MapSettings.cfg back on but back to the hang / reboot cycle.
Have I now lost all my old settings for good? Inconvenient but not end of the world!

PaulB
thanks for the quick reply.
Not sure which favourites trick you mean. I had a backup of mapsettings.cfg which I've been re-installing (then the XXL stops working again) and deleting (then the XXL works) but I haven't got the favourites anywhere else.
Am I just being slow!

The "favourites trick" mentioned is this....

If you (or Home) tries to use the previous mapsettings.cfg file after a map update, sometimes it fails to work due to an incompatibility in the file, causing constant re-boots or not starting.

But if you are able to connect to the PC and run Home, try running the "operate my Device" on-screen emulator and ADD A NEW FAVOURITE while using the emulator.

That will force the file to be updated and seems to re-write it into the correct format, so the TomTom works normally once more.

Sorry. It's not mentioned above but is mentioned in the forums many times.
Basically connect the device to your pc and use Home to Operate My Device. Add a new favourite. Doesnt matter where just add one. Then disconnect the device. This should fix mapsettings.cfg file and when you restart you can delete the new unwanted favourite.

Finally had a chance to look at my map settings file. Somehow and I don't know how, the file had been renamed as a Microsoft office settings file! I don't understand how but the unit was working normally prior to the map upgrade. I have renamed the file to what it should be and the unit starts, bizare! Need to check now whats working and whats not.

Hi Paul
The file was an office data file with a Microsoft logo! I renamed it to mapsettings.cfg and the unit started and worked normally. I've had to set up the cameras again but otherwise the unit is working.
just need to get the home fault sorted now.
Thanks for your help.
