Hi Everyone,
I hope someone can point me in the right direction here?
I have had my Mother on the blower looking for me to source a Tom Tom for my sister's Xmas! She has not used one before, So Mum is looking for a basic model like the Tom Tom One..
After looking around Amazon seems to be very competitive, But really confusing because there are too many to choose from I.E Tom Tom One V3,V4..??
I did like the idea of the Tom Tom Start for her, But reading bits and pieces in the forum I have been put off it.. As not alot of functions? I.E P.O.I's?? What else is missing from the Start??Also the UK version is more expensive than the European?? Odd!!
So my question I suppose is should I get the Tom Tom One? Which version is the latest? And also would the Maps be entitled to the Latest Map Guarantee??
Is This the latest One Version?? TomTom ONE IQ Routes Edition with UK and ROI Sat Nav
Thanks So Much

Yes, I'm fairly certain that's the latest version, but do be aware that none of the ONE models are actually 'current'.
I would be wary of any adverts that mention "v3", "v4" etc. as there is so much confusion over the numbering that the shops often get it wrong (not their fault!)
How about an XL? They are much the same as the ONE range but with the slightly larger screen which might be preferable?
There was a problem when the XL with a little "2" after the name came out, because they didn't have the POI management on them; but TomTom have rectified that with a new software update. |

Thanks for your reply Andy.. I'm trying to get a unit for under £100.00.. So am hoping this would suit.. TomTom ONE IQ Routes Edition £99.00 in Halfords.. It was an XL I fancied..
Would you know if any other units available For around about £100.00
I'm assuming whatever Tom Tom unit I buy I will be eligible for Latest map Guarantee..
Thanks Again

I'm pretty sure you should get the LMG on any new units, but check the box.
Also, have a look at the TomTom outlet store for refurb. (good as new) units
http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/tomtom-outlet-store/
The items avalable change often, but at the moment they have
GO 530 Refurbished £129.99
XL IQ Routes™ edition Europe Refurbished £114.99
ONE Regional v4 Refurbished £69.99 |

As they are refurbished, I guess they get a batch sorted out all in one go, and then flog 'em off. |

Sorry Andy not sure if I understand your answer..
Map Gaurantee not available with Refurbished unit... Do You think they would come with latest maps? No mention of that...
Also not much info on what exactly Refurbished means??
Sorry if I'm being a pain in the butt..
Hate buying for someone else.. _________________ TTG 720

The refurbished units are just that... They have been returned for whatever reason and have been repaired or tarted up so they can be resold.
I got sent one instead of a repair on my Go720 and it was as good as new with a new screen still with the plastic protector on it. Not a scratch anywhere.
Recently, people have reported that the battery in their refurb. has not lasted as long as it should, but TT battery life has always been pretty poor, and the advice here is to always use the car charger.
--------------------
Advising on the Latest Map Guarantee has always been a bit difficult.
If you were to look back over loads of previous topics about the LMG, I think you would find something like this:
1. Refurb models from TomTom have always come with LMG
2. TomTom customer services have sometimes told people that they DON'T (but the buyers have subsequently been found they did).
3. Refurb models from third-party resellers always used to come with LMG.... EVEN WHEN the resellers themselves were asked by customers and they said they didn't!
4. But some of the most recent refurb offers from third-party sellers DIDN'T come with LMG.
5. TomTom could change their policy at any time, but wouldn't tell their own Customer Services staff! |

Slightly 'off topic', was reading yesterday in the Sunday press - either the Times or Telegraph (yeah I know there will be comment), whatever, one of them did an article about the least loved Xmas presents.
Satnav was up there with personal organisers and bread makers, because the recipients never used them. Oh yes, one other one was a hair drier.
Now I find that strange because I find the drier quite useful.

Yup, mine's pretty good on an extension lead for melting ice off the windscreen.
