So 'how long is a piece of string' ?
A new bypass has been completed around Reims in France. It's been planned for 5 years at least and has been under construction for well over 1 year.
Does anyone have any experience of time lines for 'significant' road constructions?
It's not on the map update I just downloaded for my 920.
Does this appear on any current models?
Thanks _________________ Fraserp

Who knows? 5 years ago a new road was added in Epsom to relieve congestion. Tomtom still shows the original planned route. Dispute multiple submissions to correct it the real and significantly differnet route is still not on their maps.* On the other hand changes to the A1 and A3 were added quickly even though some junctions aren't completely accurate.
ETA Update: this has now been corrected in the 860 maps

I think that sums it up nicely. There are sections of major cities that are years out of date, and must confuse thousands of people, but they aren't updated (though in one case, it might have just happened!). But a new bypass road near here was on almost immediately, and a new estate across the road from where I live appeared quickly too despite being very minor.
I suspect it is effectively down to "luck". |

Not surprising, it's not due to open until tonight, Nov 22/23rd. |

i have also reported a new road where i live;
it has only been open about 3 years and still not showing yet ; i think it's about time tomtom got off there buts and do something about these new roads that are missing and at the end of the day we are the fools who are paying for map updates. (my wife has a navigon and the new road was on there as soon as she did a new map update after it had opened)then they do use navteq. |

I used to know the answer to this one. But since I stopped being 70, I can't remember whether it's this long or that long. _________________ Dennis

I will not be paying for any more map updates, all Tomtom seem to do is add a select few map share corrections to their new maps, I changed loads of wrong speed limits and no left/right turns on my last map, now I have updated they are nearly all back to how they were in the old map, before I changed them. |

I think you have missed the OP's point - he was asking how long it takes for a new road to appear on a map, not why TomTom doesn't include updates from users. |

The new spur roads around the M25 Jn 2 are on the new maps, I dont think they opened that long ago?? ( a year or so? )
However my road built 4 years ago is still not there, and another close I know of is not there built 12 years ago, but this was on v6.75.1322 .
I also noticed that a major error on the A27 has finally been corrected at last - without the use of mapshare! _________________ TomTom 700 GO user since Dec 2005.

I think the point people are trying to make is that there is no hard and fast rule as to how long it takes. Despite receiving multiple reports they still ignore major errors. On the other hand some make it into the maps before they even happen as I believe happened with a bridge in Scotland recently. |

Does anyone know how Tele Atlas discovers or is advised when a new road opens? How, for example, does a new Scottish bridge appear on a map but not a new bypass round a city in France?
Does Tele Atlas rely on members of the public to notify new roads (not corrections)? |

Who knows?
If I knew I could explain how a road once went in to a pub car park and through a 30 year old brick wall. Or how a road that only ever existed on paper is on the maps but the real 5 year old road is not. |

Last time I looked they only had a few streets of the small Township of Hampton in Peterborough on there...
Most of the estate has been there for at least 5 years.
And yet AGAIN I keep adding/correcting local streets around me that I submitted to TT / TeleAtlas for the past 6 years or so. _________________ XL LIVE IQ Routes (Europe)

I'm sure I've read an article in the past explaining how Governments, councils and other road builders feed the information to TeleAtlas, but I can't find anything about it on their website now.
I did find this comment about the MapInsight/MapShare process though:
Quote: | Prioritizes Tele Atlas editing
As we receive feedback our systems group reports by type and cluster them by geography to help create projects for our teams to research and update. Reports are prioritized based on several criteria such as type, population, and density of the cluster. The feedback we receive helps us detect and manage changes to our map data more quickly, so that we can keep our maps accurate and up-to-date. |
I also remember a good interview with someone from TeleAtlas where he admitted that at first they were very wary of the whole concept of MapShare after TomTom took them over, but that he'd had a complete change of heart since then. |
