RAW is not a recognised file format for a memory card AFAIK. Are you certain it is RAW? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Exactly, that is the only RAW format I know of, use it myself on my DSLR. But it's not a removable storage file format as far as I know? _________________ Darren Griffin |

The two SD cards that referred to that may have been formatted in my Nikon camera are very very very definitely RAW, RAW, RAW as a file system and they definitely definitely definitely work in my TT510 I don't know how many more times I need to tell you.
IT WORKS OK.

I have a Nikon DSLR and it formats in FAT. RAW is an image format rather than a file system hence my confusion.
I've researched this (and it is drifting off topic) but it appears some Windows OS's will display the card format as RAW if they cannot read the format correctly. As it is working for you then it's clearly not an issue but it may be prudent for you to copy any images off it just in case and then format it on your PC perhaps?
I didn't mean to make an issue of it nor did I doubt you, but was curious, I used to run an IT Consultancy and so was naturally curious as a new file system called RAW.
Any way, shall we move on _________________ Darren Griffin |

It appears that the TomTom Rider V2 locks the map to the memory card. This is the response from TomTom.
"Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
The reference number for your query is 101112-002928.
Thank you for taking the time to contact TomTom Customer Support. My name is Stacy and we are always happy to help.
I do understand that you are trying to copy old SD card backup to your new SD card but not able to use.
Please be assured that I will help and provide you with the required information.
I would like to inform that TomTom RIDER 2nd Edition comes with the pre-installed map on SD card. As the maps are pre-installed on the SD card they are linked to the original SD card and TomTom device.
If you try to copy the backup of an old SD card to your new SD card it will not work on the device because each pre-installed map on SD card is link with a certificate file from the SD card and TomTom device.
So I would request you to please not try and copy the data from the original SD card of the device to new SD card.
If any further query, please feel free to contact us.
With Kind Regards,
Stacy S.
The TomTom Customer Care Team"
This seems a real shame as the card is very limitedd in capacity at 0.5MB, and creates a vulnerability. |

Certain map only cards supplied by TomTom in the past have been locked to the SD card but not those supplied with a mass produced device.
If you need to free up some space on the memory card start prunning the files from the voices folder as you probably only need one or two rather than the 50+ that are in there, the following are UK voice files:
data04.chk is Tim UK
data04.vif is Tim UK
data05.chk is Jane
data05.vif is Jane
Unless you use a different voice other than Tim/ Jane any of the other files in this "voices" folder can be deleted - Mike |

So in theory jrisch could put an empty [bigger] sd card in his rider2, and download the software, but then would have to pay for a map download? If he waited until a week or so before the 860 maps, he could pick up 855 maps at 60% off. He could then do all the copies he wished..... _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Thanks for all the help, guys.
I've since beeen advised that on the Rider V2. The original maps that are supplied are locked to the card, but downloaded maps are locked to the device. So it looks like, as Guivre46 says, downloading the maps could allow me to back up the card. |
