Apple Mac and Parallels

Safari here, Firefox is too slow for me and I prefer the stability and speed of Safari.

I have yet to decide over Firefox/Safari and Mail/Thunderbird/Entourage.

Right now I have them all available. I'm using Firefox mostly, but because I used it under Windows, so I'm more accustomed to it, but it does seem to have some differences. My main problem is email - all three are not performing as I want them to. I had Thunderbird in Windows, but the Mac version isn't the same.

So I'm getting ready to go to the Apple shop and take up some of my One-to-One entitlement and get them to show me how to use (amongst other things) Mail and Safari, getting them as I want them. My inclination is to try to use native Apple stuff if only I can get to grips with it, because I'd then expect total support from the Mac shop for them. I suppose my trouble is I'm not happy to accept the default setups. Confused

Sorry DennisN I maybe should not have posted that question on your thread but as it was Mac related thought it was okay .
I agree with you regarding about using Mac related stuff as it is designed for the operating system the same goes for iWork (which they are expecting a new version out soon )they say Microsoft office for mac (which a new version has just been released ) is very good

Well there are some valid reasons, firstly it's a native Mac app. Secondly many use Office at work and so are familiar with it and or need to be able to open/edit MS Office format files.

iWork is pretty good at handling MS format files but it's not 100%. Schools also use MS products.

Another argument is that it comes with Outlook and full compatibility Exchange Server and enterprise support. That may be a deciding factor for a mixed PC/Mac environment, particularly in businesses.

I've got MS Office 2011 and it offers me personally nothing I can't do more easily in iWork.

MS Office has always, for me, been over specced. It tries to do far more than the vast majority of users require of it.

Thanks for your feed back concerning iWork and Microsoft office for Mac .
I am able to purchase Microsoft office for Mac 2011 for about £38 legally may I add which was pretty tempting .
What are your thoughts on open office ?

That's 2010, the current version is 2011. 2010 came with Entourage. I asked which version as not all come with Outlook, Student editions do not.

Yes that's quite correct Paul ! until recently a download version was available for £8-95 through Microsoft (occupation based criteria) but this was pulled by Microsoft .
But as I am sure you know Apple also offer discounts to students and certain employees of companies who match there criteria for a discounted product .
I was in the apple shop when the schools were on holiday and the Apple shop was holding a demonstration of the mac for children aged about 10 years old !talk about getting customers hooked up young Smile
