CameraAlert closes frequently when running behind Tomtom. I have to regulary swop them around to check that it is still running as it does not always announce cameras. If it has closed in the background it will again open when swopped around and then will work behind Tomtom but for an unknown duration.

I have a 3gs with 4.1 os.

It would be appreciated if anyone could please advise.

Not happening here for me on an iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 using CamerAlert v1.2.

What version of CamerAlert and TomTom are you running? Have you tried a reboot before running the two to eliminate memory issues?

I am running Tomtom app v1.4.1 version 8.300 Western_Europe v850.2821 and CameraAlert 1.2.

I did try a soft reset a week ago but it made no difference.

Surely I can't be the only one!

Thanks

Have you got CamerAlert set to be "always on"?

Press the cogwheel bottom right to access the Setup and turn on "Prevent Standby"

Thank you for the advice but the "prevent standby" is already turned on.

Thanks for offering but there are no Cameralert crash files relating to the current version.

I shall just have to keep checking that it is working by swopping with Tomtom. (Not ideal whilst I am driving. I do approx 200 miles a day).

When it hasn't been working it just opens again starting with the first Cameralert screen then goes to the map as if opening for the first time even though it is sitting in the bottom tray.

It only did it twice on Friday for example but I have to keep checking as I cover a lot of distance. It has done it six times in a day.

I’m having this problem too. I’ve never been able to get CamerAlert running in the background whilst using the TomTom app. Despite not having any other apps open.
My setup is: iPhone 3GS 32GB iOS4.1, TomTom U.K. & Ireland v1.4.1, CamerAlert v1.2 and the TomTom Car Kit for iPhone.
I haven’t had a chance to check the logs yet.

I have a lot of low memory crash files.

Today I have re-opened Cameralert approx 8 times. I mostly notice it has closed when going past cameras with no warnings.

I have 3 low memory crash files dated today.

I don’t have any crash files for CamerAlert. Having spent some time trying different scenarios it seems that CamerAlert closes when it hasn’t received a GPS signal for 5 mins, whilst running in the background. So that explains why it’s closing. However, what I don’t understand is why it’s not getting a GPS signal. TomTom is running fine in the foreground. As stated in my earlier post, I’m using the latest version of all relevant software along with the TomTom Car kit.

I sent my low memory crash files to Lutz late on wednesday but havn't had a response yet.

I have now done 600 miles with Tomtom 1.5.

Not good news, my problems are worse.

Although Tomtom does not now say poor reception so often it is suffering with a grey screen frequently with occassional freezing of the curser until a signal returns. This only seems to be a problem when CamerAlert is working in the background which is not very often. I can now at least tell when CamerAlert has stopped working behind Tomtom as Tomtom starts to work without problems.

I am now going to have to give up trying to use CamerAlert on my Iphone until I can afford a new stand alone TomTom. (My last one was stolen which is why I am in this position).

CamerAlert is a brilliant applicaction on it's own although I havn't yet run it standalone for any distance as I need the Tomtom.

The first day using Tomtom V 1.5 (with traffic HD) and Camera Alert I had the exact same problem with the greying out and locking up, I even tried with just the map showing, no route planed and it was worse than the previous version.

If I start Camera Alert first allow it to get a gps fix and check for new data base then start Tomtom so I get the Tomtom start up screen (not straight to the map I have to get the start up screen) then it seems to be working.

This is not conclusive as I have had the lock up / greying since but I did receive a phone call mid journey and no matter what I did could not get it working again for that day. The next day through it worked fine.

I will continue to test as there is some type of conflict on my iphone 3gs (16 gb) (4.1) but it seems I can overcome it, just not exactly sure if my start up procedure is it yet.
