OK I've just downloaded the "Speed Camera" warning sound to my TTXL IQ
How do I get it to work so everytime a speed camera shows up it says "Speed Camera"? _________________ Tom Tome XL IQ Routes

Downloaded from where? If you are using TomTom's speed cameras then you're stuck with the alert they give you, it cannot as far as I am aware be changed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

From TT home. It is under sounds, warnings. There are a list of sounds like "slow down!" "Speed Camera!" "You've done it!" meaning you've completed your journey. etc etc _________________ Tom Tome XL IQ Routes

I'm guessing they're there for use with third party databases such as ours. TomToms can't be customised. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Not so, Darren.
Sounds for TomTom's OWN camera database can be changed, in a limited way..
1.go to "Safety Alerts" in the menu,
2. then select "Change Warning Preferences"
3. Pick a camera type, and answer "No" to the question "Do you want to Remove the warning"
4. Enter a time in seconds when the warning occurs
5. Select a sound for the warning.
The sounds shown are all the built-in sound effects PLUS any audio files you have added to the "sounds" folder on the device. They will need to be in .wav or .ogg format, mp3's will not work.
Whether TT Home is clever enough to put the audio files in the right place I don't know....
The problem with the whole thing is that for TomTom's own camera database, you cannot set a different alert for different SPEEDS only the camera TYPE, and therefore it is pretty useless.
You cannot add voice alerts telling you the speed limit as you can when using third-party databases such as the one from this site. |

Ah good changed it. The defaults were all beeps and bells which was really confusing.
At least I know when a camera is approaching. _________________ Tom Tome XL IQ Routes

But as I hope we were all making clear... we would recommend the data from here instead, more customisable so your warnings will tell you the maximum speed you should be doing, and even more importantly MUCH MORE ACCURATE.
The TT data is often out of date or just plain wrong. |

The thing is why is your camera database so more reliable then TT?
I did get those premier camera UK data uploads free from TT. Although they seem to have stopped now for UK?? Anyone know why that is?
I know you guys have people collecting data for you but wouldn't TT have more? _________________ Tom Tome XL IQ Routes

Because we know what we're doing and we proactively manage it.

ROTFL! In a word no. Pointless debating the technicalities though, the proof is in the pudding and any direct comparison will quickly reveal how poor TomTom's data is. And plenty here who have compared and chosen us. _________________ Darren Griffin |
