I agree with Darren's earlier comment that TomTom are releasing new products with less and less functionality than previous units, and the Go1000 supports this statement.
Compared with my 740 the Go1000 is missing a number of key features:
* No audio output via line out or bluetooth.
* No safety screen
* No POI
* Home3 Not good
Theres plenty more I've probably missed, I went into Curry's Milton Keynes and they have both the 1000 & x40 models.
Also see the following from TomTom's support site, clearly an unfinished product....:
Buying new maps is currently not possible for the following navigation devices:
GO LIVE 1000, GO 1000
Managing voices is currently not possible in MyTomTom for the following navigation devices:
GO LIVE 1000, GO 1000
Backing up your device is currently not possible for the following navigation devices:
GO LIVE 1000, GO 1000
Updating fixed speed cameras is currently not possible in MyTomTom for the following navigation devices:
GO LIVE 1000, GO 1000
We are working hard to offer this as soon as possible.

Thats only half true, Line out audio is available but only if you puchase the special accessory mount, mini USB charger cable that it needs and a Brodit Pro-Clip to suit your car - Mike

Yes both the audio cable & Brodit are key accessories but these are not currently listed on the TT Website so may never exist.

NDA prevents me from mentioning whether they have been tested or not (you should know better), the Brodit mount is currently listed on the TT web site though see Here - Mike

Just to clarify (only because *I* thought "Oh, have Brodit made a dock for it?"), that's not actually a Brodit mount.... it's the TomTom made "Dock for fixed installation" which is needed to fit onto a Brodit pro-clip etc.

Well spotted, I checked last night and if you select the Go 1000 product and click accessories this isn't listed, but great to know it exists. I'll be able to spend my £10 voucher now.
Can I ask when there will be a full review of the 1000 please ? Also if you wanted a extra charger and mount for another car for the 1000, where would you get one from , as I cant seem to find anyone selling them ?

I would have thought that, by now, most of the details you would get in a review have already been talked about in the forums haven't they?
Anything else we can tell you? Several of us on this forum have been using test models for some time, and the things which are different from previous models have been talked about here.
I've also done a features round up/mini-review on another forum, which you can see HERE if that's any help.

Scroll down, and the connect cable (needed for PC connection AND for the new car charger), the USB car charger itself, the windscreen sucker mount, and the permanent mount kit are all there.

Can't stop reading the review. Despite knowing it was going to be grim, the reality still holds a dreadful fascination. Maybe TT is doing a moonlight flit to Beijing? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Im holding back on this, ill keep my 950, we know that Tom Tom are aware of the problems with this device , but they still releaseed it ? why ?
When it comes into Halfords I cant wait to have a play with one, and I bet if you rang customer support they would deny any of the problems with the device.

I really wanted one of these. I'm so glad I found this Forum and decided to wait after reading all the concerns other people were voicing over this unit.

I was reading on a US forum that they cannot understand why we in Yurup, put up with faults which we try to correct ourselves, when in the US such problems would be sent back to TT in an instant. The UK forums' mantra is 'Back-up, Back-up, Back-up'. I suggest with the GO1K it has to be 'Return, Return, Return'. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Being cynical, it looks like the new model has been released in time for the lucrative christmas market.
I can see plenty of shops performing refunds just after christmas and
the TomTom support line being rather busy during January
Standard support response will be ' Your issue with xxxx will be fixed in the next update which will be released within the next month' ....... and we all know how flexible TomTom months are
