|
|
Yes it has been a long time coming but at long last we are delighted to report that the latest version of CamerAlert for iPhone (and now iPad) is available in the Appstore.
There are a number of improvements in v1.2 including:
Full multi-tasking support for iOS4 devices. Because GPS apps will impact on battery life if left running you can now exit the app by tapping the PocketGPSWorld.com logo at the top right of the app screen.
We commissioned professional voice over artistes to provide the audio alerts, a huge improvement on the previous computer generated versions. There are also numerous improvements to audio processing.
Graphics have been improved to fully support iPhone 4 retina display.
CamerAlert is now a universal app supporting iPad3G and iPhone.
And finally a number of bugs have been fixed, especially the low memory exits that affected iPhone 3GS.
The app is available on the appstore here and is a free update for existing users.

Great improvement and the new voices are fantastic. Previously I'd used the tone alerts as I did not like the computer generated voice warnings so I am happy with the update. So far so good when used via my Alpine car stereo. |

Yay! We've been using it for rather longer than we'd have liked thanks to Apple's delay in approving it. It's much improved, the alerts are nice AND you will get a voice alert if there is a newer database available when you launch the app. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm loving the new version already, and would like to echo the praise for the new voice. It also worked flawlessly in the background with my Navigation app running this morning.
I would like to make a couple of suggestions for features in the next release:
1. Can we have the option to have either full or short voice prompts as "Average Speed Camera Forty Miles Per Hour" could easily be shortened to "Average Forty" or "Average Speed Forty"
2. Is it possible to provide the option for a single alert tone (beep) before the warning - like you can get on Garmin SatNavs. I use a bluetooth handsfree kit and miss the first approx 0.5 second while the kit recognises the bluetooth stream and mutes the radio.
Keep up the good work |

We'll get a 1.3 suggestions thread running once the dust has settled and I'll feedback these ideas. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The new voices sound much better, and the sound level seems to be much better balanced against the iPod music level.
Can the same treatment be given to the 'ding' and 'dong' sounds, as these still seem to be significantly louder than the music volume?
Also seemed to work for me this morning in background mode with Co-Pilot in the foreground. So have now got full satnav with reliable camera warnings - ideal - thanks |

Anyone knows what does the music note option do which is located next to the volume bar? The one that changes to a speaker symbol once pressed? |

This forces the alerts to come out of the iPod speaker, even if your music is connected to the car stereo via the headphone socket / bluetooth etc. |

As RavingDave says. If you have a cradle plumbed into your head-unit, then you could previously only hear the alerts IF you were also listening to the iPod function.
That option allows you to force CamerAlert to use it's internal speaker, handy when you are listening to the radio/CD or other non iPod source. _________________ Darren Griffin |

And can I ask all of you to please rate our app in the appstore?
We get a lot of unfair reviews from people who don't know of us and so don't appreciate the value on our data which is the more important part of the package after all!
It may not be the prettiest app ever made but it is functionally one of the best AND has the best data.
So we'd be very grateful if you could all post a review. We're not soliciting fake feedback, but honest reviews based on your experience of the app and our service as a whole.
The more feedback/reviews we have, the more honest and balanced is the overall score. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Another update in 1.2 is that audio-notes (when submitting a camera / change etc) are now more compressed within the app so upload speeds will be quicker.

If the CamerAlert App is running in the background, is it still requesting map tiles to be downloaded across the data network, or do these requests only go out whilst it is in the foreground? |
