Hi there I put a comment on one of the forums with regards to my RDS Traffic not working and was advised to make a new topic, which I have.

This is what I was told to do:

Why not create a new thread about this RDS issue as they certainly haven't pulled the plug on the RDS TMC Traffic system, what they did was release a map with some data files that Home incorrectly installed to the device rendering the Traffic useless - If this is whats wrong I am sure we can soon fix this little issue for you - Mike

I have not had traffic RDS working on my Go for many months and do miss it as I travel a lot throughout the UK.

When I plug the RDS cable in nothing happens no bar up the side, nothing, like it used too.

I even took the SD card out etc then replaced it and it worked then went off gain.

Is there any way I can ever get this working again, as I think my machine could now be a little corrupt and a full rest would may not be a bad idea, however I am unsure how to go about a complete re-set in case I cannot get it working again.

Kind Regards

Ray

Ray, I have moved the thread to somewhere more applicable, can you tell us what version of Navcore is installed to the device and the map version. You can find this information by starting up the device and tapping the sat strength meter lower right corner, then tap the sat strength meter on the right of the screen about one third of the way down, the resultant screen will have the information I am interested in.

Finally what type of RDS receiver are you using does it have a round plug or a Mini USB plug on the end that connects to the TomTom - Mike

Edit to add can you give me the information from the device with the SD card fitted then repeat it with the SD card removed (just seen the other thread on the same subject) lets keep it all in this thread please - Mike

Thanks a lot for your help Mike,

The details are as follows:

It says version 8.351(9982/090518) OS:315187

The Map version is: v835.2419

The type of RDS is a round plug in type, similar to an earpiesce connector which is a seperate connector on the unit.

It used to work fine till one day I upgraded the firmware as requested.

Kind Regards

Ray

Connect the device to the PC and use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the drive letter associated with the device, locate and open the Western_Europe map folder, in here will be two files that I want to know the file size associated with them:

tmcodes.dat
traffic.dat

These are the two files that Home messed up when installing a map a while ago so its worth checking these first before we move on to other ideas - Mike

On my device tmccodes is 1000kb and traffic.dat is 4kb, so something is not correct. Just been out with my rds-tmc usb and worked OK.

Afterthought: on the rare occasion it plays up [usual symptom is it cannot identify its exact location], I've found it needs a factory reset. The soft reset advised on various forums does not seem to fix it on my device. Just remembered you have the jack-plug version, so maybe I'm not helping...

The Western_Europe map folder has a considerably larger tmccodes.dat file than the UK&ROI map folder which will explain the differences noted above.

What's listed in your gns folder on the device - Mike

gns = TmcEApi.so at 72Kb. I'm on a mac so not sure I could delve further into an 'so' file

No the cable works fine on my friends TomTom Go 720 so I know for a fact thats ok.

It is definately something to do with the last firmware update I completed as it never worked after that !!

Is there anyway I can start my Tomtom from complete scratch like I would when I format my PC and if so do you think that would work?

Regards

Did you make a Windows Explorer back up when you first got your TT?
