Hi All
Just noticed latest? update (8.2.0.277) and having some problems......
Now can't use contacts as destinations. Search simply ignores contact list and if you do try to use, contact CP crashes on exit and stays in memory. Soft reset required I can however search for destinations by using address, postcode etc. Also the awful "Welcome to........." is back with no way to turn off (unlike before this update it was an option to turn off). There has been a few other changes - mainly cosmetic - and I guess some stuff under the hood as well.
Anyone else having these problems?? _________________ Adam |

The Welcome hasnt come back for me but I think I renamed the sound file so it couldnt some time ago!

Thanks for your reply. Which phone are you using? Mine is an HTC Touch Pro 2 running WinMo 6.5. I'm wondering if this could be phone specific if we are the only ones with this issue. Cant find any ref on the alk web sites at all _________________ Adam |

Woo Hoo - not alone
I sent a "question" regarding this to ALK support and this is the reply:
Response (Cara) - 29/09/2010 06.16 PM
Dear Adam,
Thank you for contacting CoPilot Technical Support.
There appears to be an issue with the navigate to contact function on the latest version of Copilot for Windows Mobile. This issue has been passed on to a higher level to be dealt with. Otherwise, if you wish to have this feature back, you can revert back to the previous version using the following instructions:
Please click on the following link:
CABs + TTS
http://www.alk.eu.com/files/v8/winmobile/cabs/8.0.0.644-2577-tts.zip
1) Download the above file to your PC
2) Extract the contents of the zip to a new directory (e.g. Desktop) and locate the '2577' folder
3) Connect your mobile device to your PC through a USB/ActiveSync cable
4) Ensure you have the correct amount of free space on your Storage Card
5) Copy the above '2577' folder to the root of your Storage Card
6) Once the file is copied over, wait 60 seconds and disconnect your mobile device
7) Open File Explorer on the phone
8) Browse to the \Storage Card\2577 folder
9) Tap 'copilot.wmppc' to start the installation
10) When prompted, select 'device' or 'phone' memory as the installation destination
If you have any further questions, or feel that this incident has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please do not hesitate to bring this to our attention.
Regards,
Cara

This was certainly a quick response but I hope they remove the latest update from Central and make it clear when the correct update is available.
Good luck.............. _________________ Adam |

Totally bemused by this "update".
Is there any mention of it on the CoPilot website? News article? Announcement? List of fixes? List of changes?
All I can discover from playing with it is:
1) lost the option to suppress the irritating welcome message
2) lost the option to suppress screen tap bleeps
I am able to use contacts to enter a destination however - this is on an HP iPaq 210. The version number is 8.2.0.277, same as those who reported problems using contacts.
I can't see any obvious improvements. Certainly no qwerty keyboard.
Have I missed something here? What is it all about?
Edit - oh, I forgot, it crashes on exit also.... Minor detail. |

From what I've read above no one has seen anything positive with this update.
I think I'll wait for the next one to come along |

@adamwolfe
Thanks for the link. I have now reverted to the previous version. Ah, bliss, no more "Welcome to CoPilot" jangle every time I start it, and no more bleeps when I tap the screen.
Interestingly, Central is no longer offering the update. However, there is a message on the Central Store screen saying:
"Note: To use this service please ensure you have the latest version of CoPilot Live V8 (8.2.0.277)"
I don't think the left hand knows what the right hand is doing over at ALK. |
