I've been using an XDA2 with Navigator 5 and an ActivePilot receiver for a few years and I've been promised a newer device by the Boss Lady. I like the Tomtom software and the way it used to do GPRS Traffic but I don't want another Tomtom if I can't have 3rd party Speed Cameras and other POIs. When I subscribed to Tomtom speed cameras they were virtually useless. I live in the heart of Yorkshire A1 upgrade territory.

My wants are not particularly demanding;
Europe maps
Brighter screen than the XDA
Traffic (without the naff TMC antenna all over the dash; can you get an integrated TMC nowadays?)
3rd party POIs

I don't need;
TV
Internet
Bluetooth
MP3

I might like;
different routing for large vehicles

Key to this project are low running costs; I don't want to be paying £n/year for map updates or traffic info that are only used occasionally.

Can you knowledgeable people help at all ?

Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for a new PDA based phone to run TomTom Navigator 7 on or a stand alone navigation device? - Mike

Standalone. The XDA was obtained solely to run Navigator 5.

This would probably work for me. Any comments?

Seems a lot of money for a 530 with a (possibly dodgy) "truck" map.

I know someone who is trying to sell a 720 (with a new battery fitted by our very own M.A.) for £80 or near offer.

PM me for details or look HERE

I think if dkitchin buys that he'll have trouble when connecting to Home for updates. It will replace his software and then not recognise the map, so he'll be stuck with what he has bought. Or will have to go places we don't talk about here.

The e-Bay item is quite probably running a cracked Navcore along with a Pirated map so I wouldn't bother with that if I were you, considering the e-Bay seller has more than one device for sale loaded with Truck maps makes me even more suspicious of this device.

On the otherhand the item in the link provided by Andy_P is genuine and worth considering even though it doesn't have the Truck maps installed, if you need the HGV options then you can purchase the maps from TomTom (assuming they are still available) - Mike

What makes you say that, Guivre?

To transfer ownership, all that needs to be done is for the seller to register a new email address for it before handing it over.

Updating software via Home would not make the map unusable anyway - the map is locked to the serial number of the machine, not the software.

The only thing that won't be transferable are any ongoing subscriptions.

EDIT: See below, I was obviously having a blonde moment.

I thought that Home would identify a GO530 and offer version 8.351 software? I suppose you can refuse it? But if accepted I understood the truck version of the map would not work with it. I did not think it was possible to buy a truck version map for a 530 from Home?

Confusing myself now! Something's not right, but not sure what the consequences may be...

Thanks for your input.

Does anyone like the Garmin 1490T? I don't think it does FM transmit though.

Just about everything you say is correct, I don't know what I was thinking in my last post,. Sorry!
I completely forgot we were talking about an "odd" combination of maps and hardware. Embarassed

(Just one update: he would probably be offered v9.058 software now)

That's OK, wasn't the most cogent summary was it? But I don't think he will get offered v9.058 for a 530...

In an earlier post having read some early feedback, I suggested TT was to be congratulated on 9.058, that seems a bit of a mistake now.
