Don't forget to factor in the cost of a powered car holder for the iPhone and if its a 3G model the GPS reception isn't that great, 3GS is slightly better and by all accounts the 4G is far better.
Volume from the iPhone isn't too hot so unless your car sports an aux input or better still Bluetooth A2DP support it can be difficult to hear in the car with the music turned on.
The application isn't bad though and offers most of the features the high end Go Live models sport, the notable exception is the missing support for third party custom POI files and associated warning sounds, if you intend putting the speed camera database on the iPhone then it won't work with the TomTom app - Mike |

yep I have shelved this idea too and only cos of the poi's
now if you guys were to sell all your poi data to tom-tom and knowing it was available via tom-tom.... now that would be a different story _________________ TomTom 5001 |

hmm
thanks for replies.
I do use a speed camera database and that would be a big negative not to have that.
Is any third party working on this at all ?
I have the 3gs phone and already have a car charge lead so no real additional expense would be required.
hang on a 2nd whilst I am typing this an advert is on top right of screen saying pgpsw camera database on your iphone.
going to finish this and click the link, see where that takes me. |

We have our CamerAlert iPhone app, the latest version will multi-task and so can run alongside TomTom (awaiting Apple Approval now).
