|
|
Any idea guys, I've just updated to the new maps 855 and as I normally do I have copied the old mapsettings.cfg file over the new one.
But now it keeps rebooting.
If I delete mapsettings.cfg it works fine.
Any idea why this should be? _________________ Richard

No idea. That worked for me. What was your previous mapset?

It was the previous map. I get all the new map updates and normally it works fine.
I'm going to roll back to the backed up version and see if this fixes it. _________________ Richard

Try this......
Once the previous mapsettings.cfg file is copied to the new map folder, connect to Home.
Run the emulator (Operate my Device) and go to Manage Favourites. Make a change to one favourite, add one, delete one, edit one, it doesn't matter.
Now, disconnect the unit properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.
See if the rebooting stops. _________________ David |

This is a common scenario, been around for a long time.
DHN's suggestion usually fixes it fine. |

I've just updated my maps to version 855.2884 and I've lost the ability to input destinations as Post Codes. When I input the post code for a destination it now asks for the name of the street, this didn't happen with the previouse map version. Does anyone have any ideas hope I can reastablish the old system of the sat nav listing the addresses of the post code and those surrounding it. |

Look at the sticky at the top of this forum where you'll find a link to the proper 855 postal codes for the UK.
Download the file in the link and (here we go........ )
Unzip the contents of the zip file into the zip folder in the root of your unit.
I understand that doing so should rectify the situation, I think......... _________________ David |

I shall remember that one for next time......although I've only got a dozen favourites, so I've made a POI category for them. _________________ Tom Tom 1005 v2 World, Garmin Dakota 20, IPhone 4S |

Yes, that's a much better solution
I think it is best to try to think of the "favourites" as just a short-term scratch-pad memory, for things you need in hurry for a few days, so I just use them to remember how to get back to a hotel or campsite I'm staying at (or even where I've parked the car!)
------------------------
Also, have you seen the neat little trick of putting an underscore ( _ ) at the front of whatever name you choose for your "favourites" POI category (such as "_Favourites")?
That way it always appears at the top of the list of POI categories, so is much quicker to find.
You can do that with as many categories as you like... _Family, _Friends, _WorkContacts etc. |

That's better than my "yellow pages" method of "A1 Favourites".... _________________ Tom Tom 1005 v2 World, Garmin Dakota 20, IPhone 4S |
