Finally downloaded this morning W&CE map 45 minutes on BT Internet.
This is about right for my connection speed. _________________ Malcolm

Second device to do now. |

I have installed the new home and my download is still crawling, Sky BB by the way. |
I got home from holiday yesterday and saw that the new maps were available. I installed the critical update to Home and then downloaded the full Western Europe map onto my 4GB SDHC card. It downloaded OK first time and took about 45 minutes (using Eclipse BB)

Am I right in thinking that if I copy my last MapSettings.cfg file to this new map and it works, then there are no supprises waiting up the road at some stage. Only reason I ask is that I use the text to speech for the safety camera voices and don't fancy typing in 30 new ones |

All you can do is try it works most times but its not consitent.
Rename the existing file to say something like oldsettings than copy your previous back one accross. If it works then all is OK otherwise delete it and rename the original back again and re-do your warnings. |

Tried updating it, it downloaded 1,2Gb after 14+hrs only for it to fail.
I'm leaving my TT750 at the old map & selling it. Having used the old-mans Garmin 3760, with superb mapping accuracy (with the odd exception) I'm tempted to get one myself. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

That's for UK maps..... Less than a tenth of the size of the full Europe ones. |

Managed to get the map finally updated, full WCE on Go 750.
Tried putting back my previous mapsettings.cfg but the unit would cycle through booting up and then resetting and booting up again. New mapsettings.cfg reinstalled and the 750 now works. Just need to redo the PGPSW camera warnings again...
Another thing, i have a problem when I select either the Recent Destinations option in the Navigate to menu and also if searching for a POI in a city or using Google "Search in City" the system freezes and the only way to get it working again is to reset the device.
Fired an email to TomTom, but wondered if anyone else has seen this problem with the new 8.55 map version? |

With your previous mapsettings.cfg on, try going into "Operate my device" in HOME then add a favourite, that usually works for me. _________________ TT Go Essential |

I bet there is the smell of hot insulation when TT gets back to work tomorrow. Wonder what the fall-out will be for whoever underestimated the demand? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Initial impressions of the new maps - pants!!
Yesterday it tried to route me down the Alderley Edge bypass which has only just started construction and isn't due to open until sometime 2011!!!
Today, in Bradford city centre, it tried to tell me to turn right where you couldn't, send me the wrong way down one way streets and also seemed rather out of date with the current road layout in quite a few places!!
Why do we bother??? |
