|
|
Hi,
Was wondering what the best solution is for changing the warning sounds that i get when approaching a speed camera.
I did used to use the pocket GPS world modified data.chk file, but having just looked at the page on this website it says that this is the old method.
The speed camera files i have on this new tomtom unit are not the ones from Pocket GPS world but the official tomtom ones downloaded through tomtom home. (Used to have TomTom One, but some kind hearted crack head kindly smashed my windows and borrowed it)
What is the best way to change these warning sounds?
Thanks in advance. |

No TTS on your device I think. Therefore you are stuck with what you can download. Look at the warning sounds in TT Home - some are spoken - there is one for GATSOs and a whole lot more for different limits. Unfortunately a lot seem to be in Dutch! _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Do yourself a favour and ditch the TomTom speed camera files! _________________ Darren Griffin |

No, you can change the length of time before the camera that the warning sounds - I use 15 secs. I've only been through the warning sounds once, and was not looking for camera warnings, so only vaguely noticed them. It does mean I have spoken warnings on a One XL.... _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

This is a brand new TomTom, so i get brand new map, new camera's etc, all updated Live, through a built in sim card.
Therefore i will be sticking with the official TomTom camera's for now.
You can also set the warning, and its quite cool, i just say xx seconds, and from that it works out the distance needed to warn me depending on what speed i am doing. |

And all out of date and hopelessly inaccurate! Oh and only the mobiles get updated LIVE, the rest have to be updated via your PC, Not that there is much point. _________________ Darren Griffin |

So, anyone know of a way to edit these built in speed camera alerts? |

gaz_0001 I dont understand your question now.
Earlier you said you just talk to it saying how many seconds and it converted this to distances to give warnings in time for the different speeds so you already know how. |

OK, to answer the question. Yes, you can change the alerts to new sounds, voices or whatever.
Just put the audio files into the "sounds" folder (.wav or .ogg format audio files, not .mp3) and you can then select them from the normal sound effect selection menu.
HOWEVER, as well as all the other drawbacks to the TomTom-supplied camera data mentioned above (primarily accuracy, or lack of), when you come to do the warning set-up using their system, you can only select a different audio file for each different camera TYPE, not SPEED.
But, if you use the PGPSW camera data instead, you can have a voice file telling you what the current speed limit is whenever you approach a camera, as well as whether it's a Gatso, SPECS, mobile etc. |

The camera warning spoken text in Home give a whole range of speed limits - just there is no way of applying them to the camera categories TT offers as they specify no speed limits!! _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]
