I never have understood why TT have introduced so many variations upon the same theme of satellite navigation. There are so many models it must be difficult for any newcomer to make a choice.
That said with strong indications of the way TT maybe going with restricted access for things like POI's I thought I should try to get some idea of what Garmin have to offer, now I am even more confused than I ever was with TT, the range they have seems to about twice that of TT why do they need such a confusing range? |

Marketing.... That's the world we live in I'm afraid.
Actually, TomTom have slimmed down their range quite a lot.
Currently there are only three high-end "Go" models, all the same but with different maps (550 with UK mapping, 750 with Europe or 950 with Europe/US) -
One lower-end XL model (UK or Europe map flavours) plus the wide screen XXL versions)
One "beginners" model - the Start (UK or Europe maps)
and one model for Motorcyclists (UK or Europe maps) |

Andy I realised TT had slimmed down after I looked at Garmin. It could take so long to make your mind up by which time it would be obsolete.
I know what you mean about marketing, but common sense says that if they didn't make so many variations it would be easier to support them and they could sell them at a more competitive price. |

But marketing tells us that some people will always want the newest model, and will spend there money whether they need to or not. Just look through some of the posts on here where members discuss replacing their devices not because they are defunct, but because TT have brought out a newer model.
It's exactly the same reason why football clubs bring out new team kits every season - because people will buy them and they can make more money out of such mugs! _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

I don't think the OP was writing about the frequency with which TomTom brought out new models, rather the number in their range. It's a form of confusion marketing, bombard the customer with too large a choice and they'll often buy a more expensive item than they actually need. |
