|
|
I am in the process of swapping over my POIs, speed cams etc to my new GO 950 and I noticed once again that I have several groups of POIs for Aires with the following letters used to classify them.
AANV
AAV
ACNV
ACV
APNV
APV
ASNV
ASV
Can anyone explain what the letters stand for? _________________ David

Does this help?
Quote: | APNV = Aires de parking non verified
APV = Aires de parking verified
ASNV = Aires de services non verified
ASV = Aires de services verified
ACNV = Aires sur camping non verified
ACV = Aires sur camping verified
AANV = Aires sur autoroute Aires non verified
AAV = Aires sur autoroute Aires verified | from here
Don't ask me what they mean. It's all Greek to me... |

Thanks PaulB2005
The reply came well under the half hour - not bad at all.
The speed of response here amazes me. _________________ David

Yes some of them are campsites, but others are service stations and rest/break/picnic areas that you also get on french motorways and some other long routes, and parking areas (don't know what sort). _________________ David

BTW djchapple - are these TomTom POIs, or a set you downloaded from elsewhere? If elsewhere (I assume I wouldn't be able to transfer TT POIs to a different satnav!) where from please?
and davidb67 is interested in French campsites as well (I think) so hope you don't mind me posting about this in his thread! _________________ David

Having negotiated the long drive through fance to spain and back last month I can add....
Aires
are rest stop areas.
some just a plain pull off the motorway to rest and maybe a toilet block.
then some with a picnic area. Others with a fuel garage along with the previous. Then the full blown thing where you can rest, get fuel, have meal in a restaurant and kip over in a motel/hotel.
Main thing is though these services are every 6-10 miles along the motorway, they alternate between what is there. But the main thing is the signage for them list in pictures what is on the next Aire. So you can decide if its the one for you, the signage will also tell you how far the next rest area is along the road.
For the most part, they are OK, but some of the rest area's can best be described as worse than One or two we drove into we slowed down and drove straight out of again!
Please do not use symbols to circumvent the swear filter. PaulB2005 |

As some of the toilets at these rest stops are the continental "hole in the floor" type, your description is quite apt.

Just a handy hint, its always best to try and plan a break stop and a contingency stop before you leave home.
When ive done cross France trips before, i look at the Aires on Google Earth, to gauge the size of the place, to know if its like a UK service station, a little cook, or something much worse!
Then once your happy, add them all into an iternary, & separate POI.
Always works for me!

Some are pretty basic and have a hole in the floor but all those I've come across also have a disabled toilet with proper seat. I've never come across one yet which has run out of toilet paper (although we always carry a couple, just in case). I've noticed they have people with vans who travel from Aire to Aire making sure things are up to scratch.
As 'bandk' says, they appear often and if you need a toilet it's never more than 10 minutes or so away, slightly different from here where you get e.g. 'Services 24 miles and 168 miles' So that's about 20 minutes or 2 and a half hours. Makes it uncomfortable with right leg on the clutch and left leg for stop and go. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
