Hello,
Forgive me if this has already been asked:
I have two TT devices... the older one is registered on TT Home. When I receive my new unit, will I be able to update both devices... how?
Blessings,

Yes, but make sure you register the second one with a different e-mail address. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Thanks. I sort of recalled that... You would think that TT would have a registered device identification. TT is NOT very customer oriented, to say the least. |

Unless I don't understand what you mean by the term, the "email address" *is* the registered device identification.
It is just an account ID name, it doesn't have to be a "real email address" - mickey.mouse@disney.com would work fine (but that has probably already been taken!) |

C'mon, an e-mail address is the address by which one can expect to send/receive e-mail. I say again: a device ID [serial number?] would be the preferred method. Never mind phony 'e-mail addresses.' I've been around computers as a software developer since 1959. All TT has to do is to make a minor change. |

I agree its rather stupid using e-mail addresses but it was TomTom that invented the system, with multiple devices it can get tricky in use, d.duck and m.mouse both @ disney.com have been used (by me)
Anything thats in the standard e-mail format will work for device registration, it DOES NOT have to be an active/ working e-mail - Mike |

I trust you ticked receive all emails ;)
If a site wants an email address to register just to see information - I tend to use something webmaster@ at the site's domain and tick every box to receive spam (I'll not comment what I put in name etc as it is usually not polite ;) ) _________________ J. |

I'm not justifying it, just telling you it works. |

For what it's worth, if you register at gmail for an address, then you get the flexibility as follows:
Let's say you register the address: gpsuser@gmail.com.
Well, the email addresses: g.puser@gmail.com, gp.user@gmail.com, gps.user@gmail.com, etc. are all treated as separate addresses by tomtom BUT mail sent to each of them all go to the mail gpsuser@gmail.com box at gmail. _________________ David |

I guess that TT also use unbeknown to the user an internal device code that gets linked together with the email address you have used. I expect the idea is really supposed to help us as users by allowing us to identify our devices in a fairly easy to remember way.
Or could it be the other way round? The email address we use gets put into the device and becomes its identifier, because if I dock either of mine and then tell it to connect to the computer whilst home is active its gets the email address from somewhere without me having to input it, I assume from the TT device?
So I use things like TT510@then my real bit here.
Or TT520@then my real bit here.
It just so happens that with my email provider I can have anything I like before the "@" followed by the rest of my email address and it becomes a valid email address. Very useful if you are involved with lots of different groups and handy when you have to give an email address to register for something, then you can use the provider's name and if ever they pass on my email address I can tell who did it. |

I have just recently registered with Gmail and I don't recall reading anything like that about it. My other post above talks about something where I can use absolutely anything before the "@" |

Tomtom did used to use 'device ID's, but they changed the system as they reckon it was being used by 'fraudsters'.
We used to be able to swap subscriptions between devices just by logging into our account and submitting a new device number, so for example you could move your traffic subscription from device to another. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,
