|
|
Hi,
I have been testing the Speedcam application on my Nokia E71 and the file that I download from the PocketGPSWorld (slected Nokia Speedcam) does not appear to have directional information.
One of the reasons I want to use the Nokia and Speedcam is that I believe Speedcam can handle directional infomration. I also know that the PocketGPSWorld database has directionel data in it.
Here is an example of the camera data in the speedcam_example.txt file that comes with Speedcam:
Longitude,Latitude,CameraType@SpeedLimit,CameraDirection
-1.00000,51.00000,GATSO@40,
-1.10000,51.10000,GATSO,
-1.30000,51.30000,TRUVELO@0,
-1.30000,51.30000,RedLight@30,212
-1.40000,51.40000,SPECS@70,
As you can see - the last column is the directional data and the redlight in this example has a heading of 212.
Is there any reason why the PocketGPSWorld download cannot contain the directional column?
Also, For the last few years I have been using a Garmin device and I always modify my files to take out all of the Mobiles (not just the pmobiles that are optional). It would be really nice if there could be a 3rd file in the download set that was all the camera's excluding the mobiles and pmobiles. At the moment there is one with everyting and one excluding pmobiles.
I can do this myself every time I download it but it is a bit of a job in excel.
Thanks

you could simply download the 'consolidated by type' instead of the 'single file' and then delete the mobile and pmobile files?

I can't help with the directional data, but on your other question, why not just download the Consolidated by Type version of the database, rather than the Single File format? That way you will get 5 separate files for fixed, specs, redlight, mobile & pmobile cameras - if you only install the first 3 files, that will achieve your aim.
Personally, I would rather know about upcoming mobile sites, and if I have a different warning sound for these, I know it's a potential mobile site rather than a definite fixed camera.
Edit - I see MaFt beat me by two minutes! _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

the Nokia Speedcam download now includes directional data. as there is now way to show a reversible camera directly, the files contain duplicates prefixed with 'R-' and the heading reversed eg:
-2.04551,55.81111,GATSO:95@70,345
-2.04551,55.81111,R-GATSO:95@70,165
cheers

Hey MaFt,
Cool - thanks for that update. That's what I call a fast turnaround.
w.r.t. pmobile etc... I don't think I can download the consolodated types for the Nokia - Speedcams option. The only download that exists is the "UK - Single File with all cameras". This download results in two txt files; one has mobile + gatso etc... and the other has pmobile + mobile + gatso etc...
A 3rd option to have just gatso etc... would be really great (for those of us who only want to know about physical cameras that are there 100% of the time and do not want the "possible" or "confirmed" mobile sites).
With the Nokia you can only load one camera file at a time.
Cheers,

Exactly 6 hours from first request to a completed solution. That *is* impressive.
Especially since MaFt had to get out his protractor and measure every one AND work out how to add or subtract 180 from all the reversable headings using the calculator on his iPhone. |

Guess what kept him? He had to take the kids to Beavers and Brownies and the wife to Morrisons, then get their suppers ready for when he picked them all up later. He usually does better than that - it's very limiting, being a family man during school holidays!
Can you imagine TomTom and Garmin handling a request like that!? _________________ Dennis

It seems that more and more local authorities are to mothball their fixed cams, but surely this will lead to the police increasing the number of mobile traps? As you will not be warned of these, is there not a greater possibility that you will be caught by a mobile?
Of course, if you do not excede the speed limit at any time so as not to be caught by a mobile, why do you need a speed cam database at all? |

One issue I have found with my Nokia E71 is that cameras without a direction are rejected because of the trailing comma. Fairly easily resolved with some Excel jiggery pokery but it would be good if the trailing commas could be eliminated. |
