If it has removed it, then it may be in your Quaranteen section, or may have totally deleted it before the reboot. As long as you are clean now is the main thing.
Apparently this virus spreads this way (on portable devices and removable cards) and then uses the backdoor methods to get your data etc.
Can you get the free map guarantee? Maybe not if these are new and unused from 2008? |

Let me just say that the day before I purchased my GO 530 off TT's web shop I rang TT customer support and asked if I would get the latest map. Yes was their answer.
Okay when it arrived it had:
ApplicationVersionNumber=8.014
and
Map United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland Version=810.1887
I registered a new email for the unit and then connected to HOME.
It offered a new App which I accepted, after that the GO restarted and then I went to the menu for the Latest Map, again it said a new map was available, again I downloaded it and then again I think the GO rebooted.
Now it shows:
ApplicationVersionNumber=8.351
and
Map United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland Version=850.2781 |

PocketGPS - when was this?
They may now have old unused stock from 2008, hence my replies from TT CS via email.
Waiting for Roydaboy to come back with his 530 received today, to see what these give?
I do not want to pay £120 then pay another £40 for the latest map. This then becomes un-economical and may then look at a newer model? |

You wonder if TomTom want business with their irratic CS advise.
I am being told now definitivley NO via email (and as stated on their site) then if you call them to confirm it and order, it is Yes, you will get the Guarantee and you can upgrade free. Grrrr.
As stated earlier by Dennis, this seems to be hit and miss.
I will try to call them again tomorrow. |

Hi Pocketgps,
OK seem to be past the Virus/Trojan thing.
The Go 530 Updated itself to the latest version of the software plus a a couple of other things, QuickGPSfix & Phone connection settings.
I can't remember what I clicked on TOMTOM Home but it did prompt me to say that there was a more up to date map available for my device.
I then clicked on "Tools" on the Menu Bar at the top of TOMTOM Home window, then clicked "Use Latest Map Guarantee".
The latest map then downloaded and installed. The download did fail at about 80% when the link to the server was lost. I retried and the download picked up from where it had failed. The update then completed successfully.
Mind you, I ain't actually navigated anywhere yet !
Hope this helps. _________________ If it ain't broke, yer not 'ittin it 'ard enough.... |

Just four teeny weeny bits of invaluable information, please.
1. What software version did it come with?
2. What software version has it updated to?
3. What map version did it come with?
4. What map version did LMG give you? _________________ Dennis

Hi Dennis,
I'm in work at the Mo and do not have access to TT Home.
Is there a way of viewing the info you requested directly on the TT ?
The company PC's are very heavily locked down. I doubt that I could install a copy of TT Home to this machine, (administrator rights etc).
I may have a USB cable that I could use to connect the GO to the PC and view the files on the TT. _________________ If it ain't broke, yer not 'ittin it 'ard enough.... |

Tried downloading and installing TT Home on this PC, no joy.
Am now waiting for the company "data stormtroopers" to come and boot down the door!
Can't track down a USB cable either.
I think this may have to wait until I can get home and connect up to my Laptop.
Will post again later. However I will continue to lurk.... _________________ If it ain't broke, yer not 'ittin it 'ard enough.... |

Don't need the computer (and Home usually reports incorrect information about this anyway). To get the current details at any time you tap bottom right corner
On next screen, tap the Version box
And the next screen shows you all this lovely stuff....
Now, if these basics are outside your experience, tell me you DO know how to do a Windows Explorer (NOT, NOT, NOT, NOT Home) backup and have already done at least two (one "Out the box" and one after you did the updates). PGPSW FAQs (starting with the first) _________________ Dennis

Received last Friday 16th July 2010 as Anita noted
Here is image of the map folder as new via Explorer backup.
So as you see the files are mostly from 2008.
And yes this was a refurb purchased of TT's web Outlet Shop. |

Just spoken to TomTom Customer Services and their official policy is that all referbished units do not get the LMG. They are supplied with the maps that they were initially given (ie 2008).
However if on clicking on the LMG from TT Home and you are allowed to get this then that is to your advantage due to a system 'glitch'.
So it's a lottery as to the outcome, spend £120 but potentially be prepared to spend another £40 if you want the latest maps, or buy a new unit that has the LMG offer. |

Just been to my local Comet to look at the Go 550 Live.
I then noticed 1 unit on display at 50% off. It was the Go 540 Live at £124.99. It's an ex demo being sold off but still gets the full warranty and looking at other sellers gets the LMG and 3 months subscription to Live?
Is this 540 worth getting? or get the brand new 550 Live at £197 (online and collect at shop) with 12 months subscription to Live. Potentially making this 550 £100 ish. Additionally from 15th July - 6th September buying a new XL Live and GO Live units (550/750/950), you get a Free red letter day worth up to £40 at www.clubtomtom.co.uk
As I am typing it could be turning into a no brainer option. |

I've heard before that with demo models the LMG has expired and probably a good piece of the 3 month Live offer. People have been advised to take demo models back for replacement. You could point out that you would have to spend £50 to get it to where a brand new model would have been, if you wanted to try to negotiate the price [considerably] lower. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]
