Hmmm... if you need POI alerts for schools and public toilets I think you need to take a look at yourself not TomTom
As the years pass you may find a necessary interest developing in the location of public toilets. _________________ Nexus 7 (2013) & Nexus 4/Sygic/CamerAlert

only a pillock who is well acquainted with the innards of a toilet, that you mention in your highly intelligent reply would make a snide reply like you have. |

And it wasn't really even a snide comment in the slightest way, either - clearly misunderstood I reckon. _________________ David

The comment made about relying on the overspeed indication relying on the map data is very unreliable, I have seen a marked increase of sudden drops from 50mph to 30mph zones being introduced which are not shown on maps plus the speeds shown are very unreliable if shown at all also the 20mph school zones which I sometimes pick up my grandkids have well shown signs but due to cars parked down both sides make it difficult to actually notice them because your eyes are busy watching for other events, I personally treat the warning sounds as a necceasry background event to aid the main focus i.e. My Eyes. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8 |

I find a speed limit indicator VERY useful. I CERTAINLY don't rely on it blindly, because it is bound to be wrong sometimes (but actually not too often in my particular driving experience).
It's when I'm in an area where the limit changes frequently (especially at roundabouts, where the sign can be 'hidden' in a forest of other signs, and there's also traffic to give way to), or where repeater signs are (strangely...) lacking, because that's where I can become a little unsure whether I have had a moment's attention lapse at the main sign.
So, even with the risk of occasional inaccuracy, I do find that the reminder is extremely helpful. _________________ David

Absolutely, but I cannot place them as more usefull than camera alerts as the the original poster suggests. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8 |

It maybe that the LIVE devices are not affected and I've got my wires crossed. |
Thanks for your help. I will let you know when it arrives. Lets hope it will be all right. |
I have now received my new XL Live and yes you still have 'warn when near POI'.
So the XL Live edition 2 may not yet exist. |

Just avoid the models with the very small number 2 in the device name, for example:
XL IQ will be fine for POI files and warnings
XL2 IQ Is not something you should touch
Start and Start 2 should be avoided as they are too simple

Hi All
Today, after several email exchanges on the subject, I received the following email from TomTom with regard to proximity warnings for third party POIs:

Response Xxxxx K. (UK) 14/07/2010 02.10 PM
Hi Mick,
Thanks for the update.
Unless I have misunderstood your e-mail, it seems as though I have not been clear with what I was telling you. Allow me to reiterate:
The new GO 1000 device is *NOT* having the proximity warning for customisable POIs removed. Neither will this be the case for future devices.
The proximity warnings for customisable POIs is something that will remain as a function with all old, current and forthcoming devices as far as any information we have available to us goes.
I hope I have cleared up any confusion with regards to this matter?
Please let me know if you require any further information, and I will be happy to assist you further.
With Kind Regards
Xxxxx

MikeB: Edited to remove personal details of TomTom staff. I have had confirmation that this statement is incorrect. TomTom have told me that at the moment the Go 1000 does not support proximity warnings. _________________ Mick

I suggest you write back asking why the Custom POI alert feature has been removed from the XL_2_IQ and Start models
with all old, current and forthcoming devices
I guess its not unusual for TTCS not to know details about their own companies products - Mike |

TomTom's left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.... sounds like the usual TomTom
It reminds me of the time I had a heated argument with their customer support representative who was adamant my GO 910 used an SD card…duh! _________________ 🔸🔸 Currently using TomTom GO 940 & Locus Map 🔸🔸 |
