Use code TOMTOM456 at the checkout for £8 off.
I did like the 540 (my 2nd one btw) especially the mount and live services but I bought it dirt cheap and sold it for a profit.
Am I missing something here? according to Tomtoms website both the xxl540 and 530 have tts
http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=992&Category=0&Lid=4
Would appreciate a link for that mount you are on about.Yes PM me and we can talk more freely.

Hi
I found that code when doing a search but didn't need it in the end as I have just put a silly bid in on a brand new TT Go 630 (European maps) + Samsung mobile phone package deal from Pixmania and won it, for £89 and as I'm vat reg'd that makes it about £73 ish + I will eBay the phone "Win Win Win"
I bought the last one of those mounts but will keep an eye out to see if they list another batch.
Your link takes me to the USA site where the XXL does have TTS, look at the UK site and it doesn't.
Sending you a PM

My XXL 540 TM WTE arrives tomorrow. I was told by someone at Tom Tom that the Traffic system is embedded in the car charger and that I will need to get a separate car charger for Europe as the traffic there works on different frquencies from USA. I was also advised to get that locally in Europe and not through the TT US site.
Hope this helps. |

TT are correct about that - RDS-TMC in the USA is completely different to Europe and therefore RDS-TMC receivers designed for one continent don't work in the other.
I wonder what the reception is like on the European RDS-TMC built in to the charger? The signal is weak in the UK compared to the rest of Europe, we had major fun with RDS-TMC until the .013 RDS-TMC receiver came out. One of the major issues was interferance from the cars electrical systems - at one point we were using ferrite cores to try and suppress it and increase the sensitivity of the receiver.
Building the receiver in to the power supply/cable (especially using the cable as the aerial) is an 'interesting' idea as some people had to fiddle around for ages with the positioning of the aerial on the windscreen to get a signal - or even connect to an external aerial to get it to work usefully.
Let us all know how well it works please. |

Just out of curiosity, what site did you buy it from "if you don't mind me asking".As when I was looking into getting the same model, the TT site blocked me from ordering ? as I am in the UK. |

I am not 100% sure the traffic charger will NOT work on both continents. In fact, I have been led to believe otherwise.......
I'll find out in 3 weeks when I use it and my 540WTE in Italy! _________________ David |

Which would make it different to all previous RDS-TMC receivers as they were continent specific, for whatever reason.
What is the part number on yours dhn - perhaps we can compare to someone who has a european one? |

I bought mine from a German retailer via Amazon [made in China!]. Just came in a plastic bag with a sticker for version - 4V00.014. No part number though. Works much better than I thought from some of the things I'd read here.
Sorry scrub that- got the wrong end of this thread. You're talking about a power cable with the rds-tmsc built in. I've just got the powered usb antenna.
Wouldn't that work though, if the power cable version will not? Probably a cheaper solution? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

I used the combo car charger/rds-tmc antenna in Italy 2 weeks ago in my 540 WTE and it worked fine. (as well as working for me here in Canada, Toronto area). _________________ David |

Does it not stand to reason if mine worked in Europe, a unit bought in Europe will work in North America?? _________________ David |
