No, the TomTom cradle only works when ext power is connected but regardless, even if power is not connected it blocks the iPhone's internal GPS.
If you take the iPhone out of the cradle and give the internal GPS time to acquire a signal it will work fine.

No. Mine works flawlessly sitting on my dashboard in the middle of the car attached by a mag mount. You can't get worse than this - everyone warns me off using a mag mount with dire warnings of damage to the iPhone and sterility to me (no, not really) but I have done it for 3 years with half a dozen iPhones and never a problem. |
That's interesting.
I don't think it's my windscreen that's the issue as Snoopers etc work fine through it. It's a dream to use with the TomTom car mount, but a litte awkward sometimes having to have it plugged it all the time and the trailing cable. |

Thanks Darren, I will try this later and see if it makes a difference. It must have been the TomTom cradle affecting things.

Am I right in thinking that the app can't be used when navigating using another app (Tom Tom / Co Pilot etc), and can only be used 'standalone' to warn of cameras on routes you are familiar with? |

Correct, iPhone's cannot multitask. This is an OS issue and no fault of ours.

| Being a pedantic shmuck, they *can* multitask. It's just that Apple do not allow the majority of applications to open simultaneously, but you can if you jailbreak the phone (or so I'm told). |

I have a jailbroken iPhone, Cycorder which is a video recorder type program can be closed although its still recording, I sometimes have that recording the road ahead and run Navigon at the same time, so thats an example when it does mutitask.

Ok so for 'not' replace with 'not permitted'. Aside from a very few occasions such as iTunes playing in background etc.
Jailbroken versions are not included here for obvious reasons.

CamerAlert will work in the background as long as you have enough RAM. Read: Not likely on a 3G, especially not when running at the same time as TomTom. In that case any background app (except iPod) is jettisoned by the OS.

Great product  guys but there is one anoying fault with the product. When using the camera alert and you driving in a non 3g area It blocks people from ringing you.(my boss is getting fed up of just getting my ansaw phone  ) The reason behind this is that camera alert is using data to keep the map updated. I have tried turning the map off but I still get the same problem. Is there any chance that this bug can be fixed (not sure how though)
I am not putting your product down, but just trying to help you make it even better than it already is. Keep up the good work. |

in the settings changing it to "show map: never" will stop it loading any map tiles.
other than that complain to o2, vodafone, tmobile etc as the 'data takes priority over voice call' is something they control and not the handsets themselves.
also, make sure no other apps (mail, safari) are using data eg if you have email set to auto-download on a regular basis.

In iOS 4 you can explicitly turn off Cellular Data. Go to Settings - General - Network and set Cellular Data to "Off". The phone will no longer be able to receive data so your calls will come through properly.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere...
With iOS4, it is possible to run certain types of apps in the background.
Are the developers of this app working to make it iOS4 compliant, so that we could leave it running in the background while having a full satnav program like navigon running in the foreground?
