It requires a SIM card for the data connection which drives the LIVE services.
The network status is available on the status screen. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The SIM card is sealed in the unit. The network it uses is Vodafone. Some people seem to be having difficulty getting a connection over the last few days.
My Vodafone signal is poor, somedays it connects in a few seconds sometimes a few minutes. |

If you look at the network status does it show as connected and have a value next to MCC/MNC ?
The LIVE services require a username and password - if it had 4 months remaining then you will have to use the same username and password as the previous owner used on the device. |

Have you re-used an e-mail address to register the 540 with the TomTom server that has been previously used for an earlier TomTom device as this is known to mess up the Live services?? - If you have the following phone number might be handy (0845 161 0009) - I messed up my 940 Live by re-using an old e-mail address, the server at TomTom simply cannot handle this! - Mike |

No harm in trying this, just make sure whatever e-mail address you use hasn't been used before, it doesn't even need to be a working e-mail address it just needs to be in the e-mail format so Joe.Bloggs@england.co.uk would be ok as far as the server at TomTom is concerned - Mike |

I thought "add to my account" would mean doing just what he shouldn't do, i.e. it would add it to the account/email address he is already logged in with. |
