|
|
Somerset's Safety Camera Partnership have announced a reduction in the number of fixed safety cameras deployed across the county.
Following a reduction in the number of speeding offences detected and a fall in casualties, the partnership plans to remove nine of the 26 fixed cameras in coming weeks.
Dick Bowen, manager of the Safety Camera Partnership (Safecam) said: “I believe our on-going driver education programme is paying dividends. There is now a general acceptance that excessive and inappropriate speed is a major factor in many of the crashes on our roads.
The change of emphasis towards education rather than enforcement is to be welcomed but it should not be forgotten that mobile cameras are not affected by this news.

no, they were in the press release. we just didn't post the sites as no doubt people will be submitting remove requests based on the news report rather than when they are actually removed... |

Welcome news that the partnership believes education (and improved driving standards ?) are the way forward in accident, or is it injury, reduction.
I also notice that the partnership has a far broader membership than many others across the country. Maybe that is what brings a more enlightened view on accident reduction. |

I noticed the one at Creech Castle on the A358 had disappeared a couple of days ago when I went past the site of it.
Mind you the chances of you going across the junction at speed's remote as you usually get stopped by the lights. I'd be careful as I reckon that they'll convert the redlight cameras to dual purpose ones, so treat with care! |

I believe this says it all - the cameras are making no money and are probably costing more to run than they are raking in in fines.
Call me a synic... sinic... scenic.... err, disbeliever, but whoever believed that speed cameras were ever about anything other than raising revenue?
I know it's hard to accept, but it just goes to prove that our best way of removing these accident-causing devices from our roads is to drive within the speed limit. No money for the Scamera Partnersh*ts, no more scameras. _________________ Drive carefully; the Government needs all the Taxpayers it can get. |

Cynicism is just scepticism borne out by experience. |
