Hi,
Is anyone using the Garmin real time traffic service? Is it anygood?
Also does anyone know which traffic cable I would need with the Nuvi 205, Nuvi 205w or the Nuvi 215BT
Not sure which one to buy and the traffic option may make all the difference.
I've sent a mail to Garmin customer service but nearly a week later I still dont have a response.
Thanks |

Hi,
The correct receiver for the Nuvi 205 is the GTM25. I bought the premium version from Amazon, this includes lifetime traffic licenses for most of Europe as well as UK. It came without a wire antenna but I have found it to work over most of England without problem. Garmin uses a different system to most others with the carrier on a number of local radio stations as well as Classic FM. It data is mostly obtained from Traffic Master.
Be aware though I found it to be of no use in towns, only on relatively major road outside the towns. It does work very well then.

Thanks Terry,
I'm going to be doing mainly motorways so it sounds like a pretty useful tool.

The Nuvi 3790T ships with the latest version GTM35. This has a USB connection and seems to be identical apart from a few cosmetic changes to the GTM25 which I have used in the past. May be worth asking Garmin if this is compatable as I assume it is more sensitive (GTM25 is about 2 years old now)
The service is patchy at times but most major motorways are covered I have found. You will need to place the "thin" wire either horizontally or vertically on your windscreen for best reception (two suckers are provided) _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

Hi,
The thin wire is not provided or required with the GTM25. All I have is the receiver itself which forms part of the power supply cable. I have driven from Shrewsbury in all directions around England and only lost reception going into Mid Wales. It worked down to Portsmouth up to Hartlepool and all around Londo,n although in London I had reception but heavy traffic was not warned.
