|
|
Hi,
I'm heading out to South Africa for the World Cup and will be doing a lot of driving so I'm taking my TomTom 950. I need to purchase a South Africa map (£39.95), but want to make sure the map I purchase isn't about to be replaced with a newer version in the next week or so...
Is there anyway you can see when a) a map was released or b) when the next release of the map is?
Thanks in advance,

Many of us were surprised that the various 850 maps were NOT released last week. Also, some feel that maps tend to be released on Tuesday's (hmmm... that's what day it is in the UK as I type this)
The point is that while nobody outside of TT knows for sure, it's a pretty reasonable expectation that 850 maps will get released in the next couple of days........ certainly by the end of May. _________________ David |

The latest maps are (in most people's opinions) a few days overdue. We were running a sweepstake on them being released last Thursday or Friday and we all lost!
I've dumped all my emails from TT about the Footie and South Africa maps, so I can't remember if it was time-limited? I think not, but you'll be wanting it before the World Cup starts, of course. Hang in there to the end of this week and I guess you'll get a later one - latest version of maps for 950 are all v840 (or v8.40 depending where you're reading it), so next map will be a higher number. For other devices, latest map is v845 (8.45) I dunno what the differences are.
The email also contained an offer, so to get £8 off the map, quote TOMTOM456 in the promo offer box or wherever. _________________ Dennis

Thanks, I'll give it another week and see if the maps are updated. Bit of coincidence, but I got another TT WC email this morning, containing the offer code...that'll do nicely! _________________ TomTom GO 950 LIVE |

I seem to recall a similar question about SA maps last year on a different forum, these maps are updated at different times to the European/ North American maps so you might find they don't get changed at the same time when the WE/ NA maps get released - Mike |

I bought SA maps in December 2008 and no new version had been released by September 2009, so they're not updated as often as the European maps. I notice the current one is a later version than I have, but I think it was released quite recently, as I've tended to check periodically. Maybe TT updated it in time for the World Cup. _________________ Anita

I'm going to wait until the back end of next week then bite the bullet. I wouldn't usually be too worried about map updates, but I know there have been A LOT of road improvements in SA for the World Cup. _________________ TomTom GO 950 LIVE |

That doesn't mean that these new roads will be on any TomTom map to be released in the near future. It's often a couple of years before new roads appear on TomTom. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Must be more like 10 years because I am still waiting!
I don't think there will be any more maps released as TomTom have realised we have noticed the maps never change, and so they can't get away with just renumbering the old maps anymore. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

no real point in buying maps for SA ,over there there is only 1 road between each city and most things are sign posted well in advance not like here where there is a million ways to get somewhere _________________ TomTom 5001 |
