Hello
I currently use a garmin nuvi 310 on which the maps are 6 years old and need updating. So i am thinking of buying a new unit instead of paying at least £40 for an update. I have settled on a tomtom xl iq uk (cant afford the subs on the live models)and now find none in stock but they have the version2 available for £10 more, but i seem to remember reading they were not as good as the v1?(but can't find this now)
Can anyone make any recommendations please?
Thanks Martin

Martin TotalPDA are still showing stock of the XL IQ see Here (This is with a European map loaded) Although I would suggest you consider the 540 Live if you only need UK mapping which is cheaper and simply don't subscribe to the Live services, see Here - Mike

The V2 models have what are known as Simplified Menus (others may refer to it as 'dumbed down' Confused ).

Fewer configuration options on the new models.

Please don't take this comment the wrong way but your question is really a no brainer!

Why pay £10 more for a device that can do less, the original XL IQ is a cracking device, the newer XL-2 IQ with it's dumbed down menu is really only intended for basic use - best avoid it if you want the flexibility to add Custom POI files - Mike

If you have any concerns please post back, but before you do too much with the new device please make sure you take a full backup using Windows Explorer - Mike

It sounds like you are putting the POI files in the right place, how many individual Ov2 (Custom POI) files are you trying to install to the device as there is a limit as to what it can handle - Mike

Again, how many Custom POI files are you trying to install to the device, as far as I know the device you have can only handle 169 Custom POI categories (OV2 files) if you have downloaded every category from this site you will have over 300 Custom POI categories. Be more selective about which categories you actually need or use the Combine Sub-Cats option to reduce the number of categories - Mike
