|
|
Hi all,
I used to have a MIo 268 plus device but it was running to slow to keep up with the IGO 8 software so I went out looking for a good replacement to still use IGO and have better GPS reception and I found a Takara GPS 30 (small screen) and a GPS 54 big widescreen display I got them both the 30 is around 70 euro and the big one you should find around 80 euro
It's fantastic a new Atlas 4 (Sirfstar 4 with instanfix 3) chipset even in house perfect gps reception! And you can easily modify IGO and change the maps and so on!
Just to let you know there are cheap and good options out there without having to hack old 2hand devices!
Anyone who has the question or own a Takara PND let me know! |

Found THIS but they are out of stock.
Found a number of references to £68.80 for the GPS 54 widescreen.
Looks interesting.
Edit. Just went back to the site and they are now in stock. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

company website here: http://www.takara.fr
note that it's in french and the little flags in the top corner that would usually englishify it don't appear to do anything...

Well I have bought the Takara GP56 which is the latest with a 5 inch screen, as I could not get hold of a GP54. looks very good and will try it out tomorrow, however I have just bought some updated maps from naviextras.com and it tells me to download their toolbox so that I can put the new maps on the flash drive, I downloaded that, and did what it told me to do but it will not recognise the device, I have tried everything and still cannot put the new maps on the GPS, has anybody got any ideas as I am ready to throw it out of the window having tried for about 3 hours and am getting nowhere fast.

I have got all the info from Takara and found out that naviextras do not do the updates I can only get them from Takara, its a pity that it did not tell you in the box when you buy it.
however I have now tried out the GP56 and I must say that after an interesting time of setting it up I have found that it is a fantasic GPS and very fast for navigation no lag at all, and very smooth, the maps are clear and there is no problem reading them. It will also take the speed cams from pocket GPS world you can also add all the skins you want 480x272, and there is a good amount of voices for you to choose from. there is also a player for your music, and you can also watch videos if you want, and the big 5 inch screen is a joy to use.
All in All I am very pleased with it. price wise 149 euroes very good value with 24 maps of europe.
