Just seen this on the BBC News site http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/8673234.stm in the Bath area
Sounds like a good idea to me. A proper use for technology. _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course! |

Good old BANES - my own council.
Quote: | Bath and North East Somerset Council said the scheme could be expanded to other schools if it proves to be successful. |
I wonder how they define "successful"? Points/cash, or an end to all incidents? I really must try to drive past one of these sites to see what, if any, camera warning signs are displayed.
Whilst I too approve of the policy, I'm not too sure about the implementation. Cameras on the poles - are they running all the time or do the lollipop persons have to switch them on when an offence is committed? Will the LPs have to point the camera? Will the LPs pay more attention to cars than to those persons wishing to cross the road? What's wrong with CCTV cameras properly placed? (Actually, what's wrong with CCTV cameras properly placed is that the last time BANES's CCTV system in Keynsham was inspected to do something about a shop breakin, the video quality was so rubbish nobody had the faintest idea who the perpetrators might be and the police said it would be useless as court evidence!). _________________ Dennis
