I have just bought the big Yins voice.
Problem after selecting voice I get option to choose a computer
voice for command and control etc. After choosing a computer voice this causes problems and restarts with computer voice only.
Am I right in now thinking you can only use one type of voice at a time ie computer or recorded.
If so I have wasted money on voice as cannot use voice control command with this.
For info I have map on sd card.
Any help would be appreciated.

My impression is that this is not an addition to the first voice you have selected but, as you say, 'an option'.

This bears out what I have said - in choosing the computer voice, it overrides your first choice. What do you mean by 'problems'

That's been my understanding.

That depends on whether you are content with the directions from a non-computer voice & if I am correct in my assumptions (above).

I don't think this will make a difference, if you are suggesting that you try to put one voice on the memory card and one on the internal memory.
I don't think that is possible from the preferences on the device - perhaps it is from using the device through HOME. _________________ Gee-Pee

Thanks for reply Gee.
The problems encounted so far are-
1. when I plan route with both voices enabled the Tomtom freezes then restarts.
2. When power off is pressed the TT restarts after awhile and resorts back to computer voice.
3. Random restarts when in use.
It does appear that it is not able to use a computer voice for voice commands at the same time as a recorded voice(without faulting). The confusion is created by it asking the question to "choose the computer voice for command and control and for reading messages" after selecting a recorded voice.
I might add that it does give the voice command computer voice at the same time as recorded until it faults.
All this could be addressed by a firmware that does not allow computer voice selection at the same time if it is not designed to do so.
cheers John

By any chance, are you planning the route BEFORE you've gotten a gps capture of the satellites? _________________ David |

Just tried your voice setup on my GO950 and got the same result. Device froze half way through calculating the route (after I first got a valid GPS signal). After waiting about a minute or less, device did a re-boot. After that, only the computer voice was enabled.
I had not come across this before as I usually only use a computer voice.

I'm glad you could simulate fault Gee.
I think it does make sense to use a computer voice for additional functions beyond the recorded voice capabilities.
I have searched web but unable to find answer to this and was hoping it was a case of just deleting or moving a file.
In the meantime I will just stick with the stable computer voice only. |

I've been fining this on my 950... Good to hear confirmation from someone else too.
Select "real" voice - no crashes
Select TTS/computer voice - no crashes
Select "real" voice PLUS TTS voice for warnings etc. - lots of crashes
I also find that immediately after every crash, the selected voice has reverted to the TTS voice only.
Please report it to TomTom to increase their awareness.
(P.S. I've run exactly the same set of voices on a 940 for ages with no problems (i.e copies of the same voice files or fresh downloads, it makes no difference)) |

Now this annoying I have been playing with my GO630 to try and replicate the problems displayed on the GO950 without success. In doing so, I changed SIMON for another voice, but when I went back to re-enable him, he refuses to speak. I have checked to see that he is not disabled but all seems OK.
I then deleted him from the device and then downloaded him again and reinstalled, still with no sound, though.
Any more suggestions as to how I can get him to speak ? I think he may just be sulking _________________ Gee-Pee

Try a pin reset on the unit.
Also, do you have an sdhc card on the unit? If so, was he accidentallu installed there? _________________ David |

Canadian?? I wasn't aware that any voices were designated as Canadian.
US, yes. UK? But of course.
What does a Canadian voice say? Perhaps 'eh'. Alot!! _________________ David |

Weird problem as on the XL LIVE I have in the past used both a standard and a TTS voice at the same time.
Where are the voice files - are they on the internal mem or on the card?
Have you tried moving or copying the voice and the LoquendoTTS folder to the card, or tried without a card in and all voices on the internal mem?
IIRC TT changed how the 950 addresses the card, so certain things were run off of the card (maps) and others from the internal mem. |

You are right. The voice is called "Canadian, Eh!" and he truncates a lot of words into one, such as 'Yrthere'. It's actually designated an 'English UK' voice. Very confusing....... _________________ Gee-Pee

Weird indeed. Andy_P is suffering with this problem on his GO950 and I have been trying to copy the process and recreate the error on my similar device. I only keep my maps on the SDHC card all else is on the internal mem. Today, I was just checking to see if the same happens on my other GO630, but it does not. Normally I run practically everything on the card as the mem. on that one is quite small That's when I ran into the SIMON problem. However, I have sorted that one by uninstalling ALL three of the voices then reinstalling all three back to the internal memory. Now all three work. Don't know what the problem was. _________________ Gee-Pee
