|
|
London, UK - July 21 2004 ALK Technologies Ltd, leading developer of transportation systems, today announced the Worldwide launch of CoPilot live | Pocket PC 5, the most feature-packed and user-friendly CoPilot navigation system to date.
CoPilot live transforms a Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC into a powerful portable Sat Nav System, complete with lightening fast calculation of routes and spoken turn by turn directions door to door. Drivers will benefit from many new features including redesigned map displays with 3D view; low-glare night mode, the London Congestion Charge, and even safety camera alerts.
CoPilot live | Pocket PC 5 contains updated street maps which, unlike most satellite navigation systems, now include the UK's M6 Toll Road, the Isle of Man, Channel Islands and extensive coverage of Ireland. It's the portable navigation system that drivers can depend on for accurate directions wherever they are, no matter what vehicle they are driving.
"CoPilot live | Pocket PC 5 is an extremely powerful and easy to use GPS navigation system," said Michael Kornhauser, Director of Development at ALK. "New user-friendly features such as type-ahead address entry and enhanced map displays make travelling by road easy and safe. "With the latest maps of Europe and support for nine languages, more individuals and businesses than ever can enjoy the benefits of GPS navigation, without the inflexibility and high cost associated with built-in systems."
Incorporating 25 years of transportation research, CoPilot live | Pocket PC 5 is designed with driver safety as the priority. Detailed spoken directions enable drivers to concentrate on the road ahead rather than on-screen. Entering destinations and planning trips is incredibly easy using large, clearly labelled buttons and step-by-step predictive address entry. Just key-in a post code, house number, intersection, an address stored in Outlook contacts or one of thousands of Points of Interest. CoPilot live can even work out the optimal route around multiple stops, ideal for complex trips or multi-drop delivery drivers.
Driving anywhere is now as simple as driving around your home town. Unlike other navigation systems CoPilot live treats Europe as a single map region, with borderless routing right across the continent. CoPilot live provides detailed turn-by-turn directions in your native language, taking into account the correct side of the road to be driving on and the right direction at roundabouts!
CoPilot live uniquely incorporates live communications as standard. Drivers can send tracking numbers to enable friends, family or colleagues to track their position on the map, send text messages and even new destinations all in real time via a secure internet site.
CoPilot live | Pocket PC 5 GPS navigation software supports most Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs, and is available through authorised dealers from around £130. It is also available onboard the Mio 168, the worlds first Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC with integrated GPS receiver, through Evesham Technology.
New Features in CoPilot live | Pocket PC 5
- Welcome Screen to help first time users set-up the system and get up and driving easily
- Detailed navigation directions on screen and spoken in nine European languages
- 3D map display, and night mode provide an improved user experience, customisable to driving conditions, but without compromising driver safety.
- Enhanced Driver Safety Mode provides a new arrow graphic and simplified turn instruction to emphasise junctions and to highlight the road ahead.
- Updated maps from NAVTEQ, leading supplier of maps to the automotive trade. New maps include the Isle of Man, Channel Islands, more detailed coverage of Ireland and the UK's M6 Toll road.
- Provides an alternative if your route passes through the London Congestion Charge zone.
- Additional options to customise CoPilot live's display and turn instructions.
- Pick a stop from any map displayed, simply by pointing with the stylus.

PocketGPSWorld.com will have a full review available within the next 24 hours!

You can't change road speeds, but you can choose between two vehicles, namely Automobile and RV (good old americanism).
Unfortunately it's not compatible with POI-Edit, I have been talking extensively with ALK over the past 6 months to try and achieve this, but sadly it's not there yet, mainly due to the way that CoPilot has to export the POI's into the map data rather than overlay it like others do. |

More importantly, where can I get it from now. I need to defect from TomTom now!
I'm in the city tomorrow and will go and find somewhere if they stock it! |

I don't think it's shipping quite yet to the public, it should be hitting distribution channels in the next week or so.
Might see if we can get a few copies for a compo! :D |

Spoke to Global Positioning Systems they said the end of the month, the only price they could give was $199.00 us. That is just for the software package. Knowing how the exchange rate seems to by the board for software it looks like the price could be around the £200.00 + vat. _________________ Graham.

Is there any chance of a few screenshots of the mapping coverage for Ireland in the new Co-Pilot 5? |
